Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 05, 2016 1:55 pm Hi all. Im very new to this so hoping you guys can help me out. I've got problems with drainage down one side of back yard. Ill post link for pics below. I've been given approx 5 tons of grass underlay not sure what it is but it's very sandy. I'm hoping if I lay it thicker down that side the water won't puddle as bad there. How thick can I go without killing my grass also should mention there is a storm water pipes running along fence line on my side. Also have heaps of long skinny grass growing through the sir walter. Ill post pic also. Is it winter grass? Seems to grow crazy where the water sits. Thanks heaps for any advise. Cheers Re: Grass drainage problem please help 3Oct 05, 2016 2:23 pm dont think the last 3 pics worked... ill try again http://imgur.com/KApHY5f http://imgur.com/4evuA6m http://imgur.com/uqKwaAf the program wont let me rotate the pics for some reason Re: Grass drainage problem please help 4Oct 08, 2016 7:43 am I'm no expert but if you cover the grass it will die, when you topdress grass (essentially what you are try to do) you put 5-10mm on top and water it so the left is exposed. It looks like you have an access point for the storm water in that low part of your yard so you can cover it but it looks like you could raise the ground hight a bit a be okay. You would need to kill grass in the area, mix in the turf underlay you have (200-300mm deep is good) which should help with drainage if the current ground is poor and then re turf. Properly a bigger job then you were wanted to do. Re: Grass drainage problem please help 5Oct 08, 2016 10:13 am Thanks for the reply. Yeah definitely a bigger job than I thought. What about if I gradually raise the level with the underlay. Maybe 10mm now and 10 mm middle of spring once it's fully grown through? 2 5854 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Please help me to answer this question , it will help me a lot as i can go to buy confidently with your recommendation: I want to put synthetic turf in our backyard for… 0 5541 Hi HomeOne, I'm in the midst of landscaping a cat run down the side of my house, and the recent rains have me wondering if I need to install some sort of drainage.
