We are building a paver stepping stone path around the corner and side of our house. We have already cemented all of the pavers into place. We want to place decorative gravel around the pavers to complete the job. The plan is to lay down some weed mat and cover it with 5cm of crushed brick decorative gravel. Do we need to put down some sort of sub base beneath the weedmat or between the gravel and the weed mat as well? And if so, what do people recommend? Or would it be ok to skip this step. Re: Advise - laying decorative gravel around stepping stone 2Sep 30, 2016 7:50 am I wouldn't bother with the weed mat at all all it does is trap all the dirt ect that's washed down through the gravel over the years. Make sure the ground is clean (no lose dirt) and throw the gravel on top. You will get weeds germinate in the gravel but just pull them out as easy to.
