Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 20, 2016 5:27 pm Hi all, Me and my husband are building a new house. We are nearing completion and were planning to get landscape design done. Is it worth getting a 3D design plan? Or a normal 2D will suffice? We don't have a huge area for landscaping, plus we are including a pool as well. We are first time builders so not too sure which way to head. Would really appreciate any sort of input. Thanks Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 2Sep 20, 2016 8:49 pm If you really can't visualise the garden from the 2D plan get a elevation drawing done. If you still aren't confident then get the 3D render done. The 3D is created from the 2D. Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 4Sep 20, 2016 10:47 pm Forgot to mention, depending on your designer, they might just go straight from 2d to 3d skipping the elevation. Or the elevation is part of the 2d drawings. Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 5Sep 22, 2016 11:02 am Hell of a lot more work involved in creating 3D. It doesn't just come from the 2D drawings. Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 6Sep 23, 2016 12:08 pm Depends what program the designer uses on how easy it is to create the 3D. You'll likely pay a lot for 3D images though unless you can get a drafty who's willing to show you screen shots as opposed to finished renderings. Finished renderings require lots of time spent getting the program's materials and light exactly right. Also it could be hard sourcing pictures of the exact plants you want to use to use in the render. That said, renders/3D images/screen shots are all awesome. I draw them myself and use them all the time to sell ideas to my husband Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 7Sep 23, 2016 1:17 pm Roomeat Hell of a lot more work involved in creating 3D. It doesn't just come from the 2D drawings. Of course there is more work, op didn't ask that. They asked if they need it. The 3D is most definately created from the 2D - so the render is to relative scale. Whether the 2D plan is hand drawn or CAD. Rough 3D models to illustrate level changes don't need the full render treatment and are priced accordingly. Sometimes I create quick 3D models in sketchup for my clients as I am talking with them All depends on the CAD program the designer is using. Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 9Sep 23, 2016 1:40 pm OP, if you can afford it or find a designer who like BeatrixKiddo does quick 3D models as they go, then definitely get some 3D images. They don't need to be full renders to get the idea. Rough 3D models give you an idea as well. Good luck! And if you do get some, please share! It was time consuming though: viewtopic.php?t=78220 Here's what I did, the final design changed slightly Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 11Sep 24, 2016 11:51 pm wrexter Have a look at my rear landscaping build thread, I did my own 2D and 3D plans, it helped me with alot having 3D to trully see the final look potential. Loved it when I first saw it, and still love it! Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 12Sep 26, 2016 1:06 pm Thanks a lot BeatrixKiddo, roomeat, wrexter, cat_dunc. I came to a conclusion that rather than involving a draftee or a 3D designer, it's better to do it yourself. It will save a lot of hassle, money and we can get whatever we want. . wrexter, that 3D design looks awesome! I downloaded a trial version then my Mac updated and I lost it. Doh! To buy the license it was $695 usd. I'm going to go through a lot of trial versions to come up with my plan lol - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Is it worth getting a 3D landscape design for a new hous 17Oct 09, 2016 12:26 pm I'll google it!!
