Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 05, 2016 5:44 pm Hi, I am having this dilemna. We are going to sell our house soon and the front yard's lawn is full of weeds and patchy. I know it's because we didn't take care of it but now we want to make it nice to resell the house. It is a very small patch so I was hoping to do myself (9sqm + 18sqm for the government strip) I had a few things in mind: 1. I was looking into rototilling everything a few days after applying round up, rake until it's flat, fertilise then lay the grass 2. Use a hoe and a shovel to take the top of the lawn off, get some top soil, rake till flat, fertilise then lay the grass Which solution would be best and quickest? Or maybe it's wrong and there is a better solution out there. Thank you for your help ! Re: Lawn full of weeds, need to do a full resod 2Sep 14, 2016 8:00 pm Maintenance from the beginning would have been the best thing to do and would most probably saved you money in the long run..... 1. I would kill all the lawn with roundup and leave it a few days then pull it up and get as much of the roots as you can then till it and move the earth around. I would then roundup it again leave it a few days level out and pull out all the obvious roots. Leave it a few more days maybe get a 20mm layer of decent soil to throw over the top then add water saving crystals. Leave for a few more days then lay turf waer in and fertilise after about 3 weeks. Hand pull out any weeds until the lawn is established once established weeds should stop coming through unless you wear and ear the grass and give the weeds a chance to come through the dead grass. Re: Lawn full of weeds, need to do a full resod 3Sep 15, 2016 11:43 am Thank you, yes I should have taken care of it from the beginning. Round up done last week and the lawn started to yellow a few days ago. I have some excess soil as well so I need to remove at least 2 cubic meters of soil and old lawn + the old mulch that we are replacing Would it damage the soil to have an excavator come and remove 30-50mm of dirt ? I would then round-up again and put some fresh top soil. The company that covers canberra offers a Super soil mix that is 50% Top Soil 30% Cow Manure and 20% Washed Sand. Is that good enough? If it's okay to do this way, do I still need to rototill the land of I should be good to go with some compacting? I have also some chicken manure from our chooks that have composted nicely during winter but I am not sure it's a good idea to supplement it to the soil as we fed them lots of grains that could germinate. Hi Kristy Around $1.7-1.8m or around $4,600/sqm. if you PM me your email I will send you a break up in a spreadsheet so you can get an understanding of the costs for… 1 9956 the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4864 |
