Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 29, 2016 5:53 pm Hi Everyone. So I finished my retaining wall a while ago and stoked with the outcome. I'm a bit concerned for my agline as I don't think its worked at all even though I had a generous fall and backfilled with gravel it was socked agline and I used geofabric. Nothing ever comes out the end of the pipe I'm getting ready for concrete and have laid the packing sand and you can see the water seeping underneath please see pics. I'm a bit concerned as it is winter maybe its just moisture/dew but clearly you can see it coming from the wall. 1. Do you think this will be an issue once concrete is down? Will my concrete always look wet against the wall? I'm potentially in the future going to put a spa in the corner could this be an issue. My concretor isn't very concerned and he said if anything it will just sink ( I'm assuming also crack?? ) I just don't understand why no water falls out the end of the agline. I have clay soil bottom , I packed about 5-6 cm of gravel at the bottom ran drain on a pretty consistent down incline its socked covered in geofabric then covered in blue metal for a good 30cm then more gravel scoria on top so no soil???? I'm thinking I should have done a French drain ive never been a fan of agline ever. Runoff = french drain at the top. Seepage = deal with dam concrete when its wet, or dig out behind the wall putting a trench in 500mm below the concrete level graded to the stormwater connection. Better still if its seepage just plant it out densely and the plants roots will natural draw the water out.. Looks good too. Grass plants with lots of fiberous roots like clumping bamboo or even better mass planted poa labillardieri work best. Poa is used a lot for this on enviro and commercial jobs. Re: Retaining Wall Advice/Help/Opinions/Comments 3Jul 29, 2016 7:25 pm Water always takes the path of least resistance. If your ag-line is above the bottom of the wall and there is no 'seal' between the bottom sleeper and the ground the water will seep out. This can be made worse if their is a 'sock' around the pipe as all the dust in the gravel will be washed against the sock clogging the geotextile and preventing water getting into the pipe. Re: Retaining Wall Advice/Help/Opinions/Comments 4Jul 29, 2016 7:51 pm Yeh that makes sense bashworth its leaking the most probably where I packed it out with gravel hence water probabl just seeps through the agline back down the gravel and pools and then leaks under the wall. I had to pack it down that end to achieve the fall easily. Oh well will it be a huge issue once concreted. I'm assuming not and some moisture is better than none right? I'm hoping the concrete may slow down the seepage which might make the water rise and run down the agline. Re: Retaining Wall Advice/Help/Opinions/Comments 5Jul 29, 2016 10:13 pm If the finished concrete level is above the ag line that will direct the flow down the pipe. Alternatively you could pack clay under the wall. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time.
