Hi, a question about retaining walls. I had a significant site cut. 1. Plans state that One side of retaining walls will be built 200mm from boundary. The pine sleeper is 50mm from boundary fence. No scoria or soil between sleeper and fence. So inner sleeper edge is about 150mm from fence. Are the measurements to be taken from the boundary to the outer edge of sleeper (closest to boundary) or inner edge of sleeper( house side)? My site supervisor was not able to explain why this has occurred. Don't think he was even aware. There is no drainage pipe behind this as is unfilled. 2. Plans, including those that have gone to council state walls in one area will be 1200mm arms 1000mm...... At most they are 800mm. I am concerned that they didn't remove enough soil and yard isn't flat with slab. Is it a surveyor or someone else that could tell me this and should I ask for an engineering report or other report to explain difference? Thanks for your help in advance. Re: Retaining Wall- and site cut help/advice 2Jun 19, 2016 6:16 am Hi Gaudi 1. Do you have the engineering drawings for the retaining wall..the details should be in the notes? You will also need to dig down and check the footings and agri drains, etc? it always helps to ask for photos to be taken when they do the work.. & I always send photos 2. I would also be concerned with these a. What height relative to the site plan is the house FFl build to? b. If you paid for 1.20m cut/fill and they gave you .8m did they over charge you and are you entitled to a credit as its a PSs Site works item c. What are the engineering long term effects of b. above? d.e.f.... you will need to check the contour, site report and engineering details and investigate further Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Retaining Wall- and site cut help/advice 3Jun 19, 2016 7:00 am Thank you Structural BIM guy, I wasn't reassured by SS response. But as a dummy in this area didn't know what else to ask or what to refer to when he said they were ok. I don't have the engineering drawings or drainage plan drawings so I'll ask for these. These are very helpful questions I can ask builder and will ask my surveyor to go out again and check if site cut accurate to site/engineering plans. Thanks for advice! I'm well out of my depth. Re: Retaining Wall- and site cut help/advice 4Jun 19, 2016 10:03 am It's likely they didn't cut the site enough, or as paid for, because any retaining wall over 1m needs to be engineered. Anything under doesn't. As for no scoria or drainage, why? Where does the water go? It may not be an issue initially but my understanding is sleepers can last up to 30 years but with that amount of moisture, they will rot well ahead of time. Retaining Wall- and site cut help/advice 5Jun 19, 2016 10:48 am Thanks Emma1906, That may explain the walls being less than a metre. I asked SS the question too, about drainage and scoria and about distance from fence but will ask again after they provide me access to engineering plans etc. thanks for advice. Helps me write my list of questions and requests- PCI is getting close, so need to get to bottom of this now. Best wishes Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 17932 PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you.
