Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 28, 2016 9:39 am Hello Everyone we are still conducting our landscaping and are after some peoples opinions on whether to place a frangipani tree in our front yard at the moments its small but as you know these trees can grow very large and awkward. We are unsure whether to place it on the white pebbles near our letterbox or if we just place it on our front lawn somewhere. Our main aim is 1. Not to distract to much attention from the front of our house ie block the front of the house 2. Offer some shade as our house faces north and we get heavy sun all day long Im thinking in the pebble garden behind the letterbox but iam concerned about the roots growing underneath the driveway and ruining it in a few years time when the tree becomes large. I have limited room already so how wide would one suggest making this garden bed, I already have a retaining wall under construction on the fence side which will most likely also becoming a garden im just thinking it will be to much garden with just a few strips of lawn in between [imghttp://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz260/bsb20092010/IMG_6070_zpsxiwjvjem.jpg][/img] Re: Landscaping and planting advice frangipani tree? 2Mar 28, 2016 4:22 pm Frangipani's are easy to prune and control, they are also slow growing and they don't have huge roots that are going to damage a driveway. I think it will be fine either way. Re: Landscaping and planting advice frangipani tree? 3Mar 28, 2016 6:17 pm I would say plant the tree on the lawn, in front of the window to the right so it's not centered. If you plant it near your letterbox you won't be able to see your front door when looking straight towards the house. I think houses which have their entrance blocked from view look uninviting. Just my two cents worth Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: Landscaping and planting advice frangipani tree? 4Mar 29, 2016 1:49 am I think the lawn is a better placement for window shade and privacy. Frangis are super easy to move as well. Put it where you want, you can move it later if you change your mind Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: Landscaping and planting advice frangipani tree? 5Mar 29, 2016 1:51 am Re garden bed, depends what you want to grow. Maybe 400 to 600mm? Or have it all garden with a meanderinb path down the middle. No whipper snipper required and you could have some larger shrubs . They hate wet feet. I'd also plant it away from the driveway or path as others above have said as they can drop lots of flowers and leaves in autumn. They can look superb and smell divine.
