Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 19, 2016 6:18 pm HI Everyone Wondering if any one has any experience using the concrete sleepers on retaining walls in particular the ridgi concret sleepers spaced at 1.5 metres apart. I live in an area with bad clay soils im just a bit concerned with the concrete actually cracking etc. Please see below link for idea on what im talking about I think its a relatively new product and not sure if I want to be a guinea pig at trialling it any ones opinions accepted http://www.bunnings.com.au/ridgi-150-x- ... r_p1080303 Thanks Re: Retaining wall 2Feb 22, 2016 1:57 pm I can't see it cracking even with your soils. It comes with a 15 yr warranty too - bonus. I see in that ad that it states "engineered and designed retaining wall system". If you follow the instructions you can't go wrong. It is one of the better looking options around. Stewie Re: Retaining wall 3Feb 22, 2016 5:37 pm These are very common in the USA, you will not have a problem with a sleeper that size. Sent from an iPhone please excuse the ridiculous spell correcting software. My forum thread is at viewtopic.php?t=74944 Re: Retaining wall 4Mar 04, 2016 8:44 pm We have heavy clay soil and concrete sleepers. Haven't had an issue. I think concrete sleepers are pretty hardy. Here is a link to when ours were done http://buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com. ... walls.html I have another post on the progress of the front landscaping going up in the next few days. There may be better pics of the wall in that post. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Retaining wall 7Apr 03, 2016 5:19 pm Has anyone got any ideas on how to get the bottom level im ready to start placing the sleeper sin but my ground is a bit all over the place or shouldn't I worry to much about it. I was thinking the backfilled gravel should fall in the open gaps? Also how should one use the geofabric mesh on a concrete wall and how much gravel to put in before I lay the agpipe etc etc, looking for a good how to guide I guess. Also do you need much fall on the agline I can see myself stuffing this up. Re: Retaining wall 8May 22, 2016 7:52 pm What you do is concrete the posts in with the concrete around the post finishing around 50mm lower than intended dirt level. Mark your intended grass/ground level on the posts then put concrete inside the post itself around 3-5mm lower than your line. Drop your first run of sleapers then run a string line to get them straight. Use sructural plastic packers from bunings inside the post underneath the sleaper to get the hight 100%.
Re: Retaining wall 13May 22, 2016 8:08 pm HomeAngels That wall looks great. Well done! Cheers just needs some paint now. Its a relatively easy system but its all in the setout. The best part is, its easy to maintain if needed, as you can pull the sleepers out of needed. Depending on how big your wall is read the bunnings website, they do free devivery for the sleepers for orders over around $1300. Re: Retaining wall 14May 22, 2016 8:14 pm Are they concrete sleepers? If so they'd be really heavy! We have concrete sleepers in our front yard and they had to be lifted by machines.
