Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 12, 2016 6:34 pm Hi Everyone Im trying to do a garden bed out the front of our house and im needing some help. I have bought ironwood h4 sleepers from masters 200mm height x 50mmwidth x 2.4 m long. I have had to make cuts in them and would like to treat them for termite protection. What is the best product to get tp treat as the tins tins at masters were like $60 for a 2 litre tin I hardly need to use anything. I have so far soaked in kerosene but I don't think this will last long term. I also have wrapped the timber in builders plastic to try and preserve the timber am I wasting my time please see pics ? Should I just let them sit in dirt I have 20mm slag being delivered tomorrow and was just going to fill slag underneath them for drainage is this a good idea as well as wrapping in builders plastic. Please see attached pics any help appreciated really want to make sure we keep the pesky termites away I know how much they love munching wood from personal experience. Our house is steel framed with no termite barrier im worried if they get in they will eat the crap outta our gyprock and skirting boards. Black plastic is used for the back side of a retaining wall, so if you must, only put it on the garden bed side and underneath if you must. For the cut ends, give them a splash of nicely used carboned up engine oil. It stays around forever. As long as the timber is not touching the house or within jumping distance (20 cm) you will not be introducing a termite issue. If you have no termimesh or anything like that, try to keep as many black ants around around the house as possible. They eat white ants.
