Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 13, 2016 5:06 pm Hello I am about to start a retaining wall out the front of my house. Going for a timber look. However all the sleepers i can find are very rough and dont give that polished look im after for a front yard. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to get what im after. I have considered: - buying a dressed wood and then treating it. - using the rough sleepers and then lining it with a h3 product (cladding for example). - cleaning up and dressing the rough sleeper. - woodgrain concrete sleepers (look a bit fake though) Does anyone have any experience in this situation or any other ideas? Thanks, Re: Retaining wall ideas 2Jan 13, 2016 6:05 pm You could always clad it with something more "finished". A neighbour of mine is planning on cladding his wall with merbau. Re: Retaining wall ideas 3Jan 14, 2016 5:27 am Matt1 has the best idea in my opinion. It looks great for a timber retaining wall. I am doing my retaining wall in Versawall concrete blocks. http://www.adbrimasonry.com.au/homeowne ... /versawall Re: Retaining wall ideas 4Jan 14, 2016 11:26 am Thanks, Im in WA and the wall blocks aren't that easy to come by, well at least a decent looking one anyway. The versa block looks really good. But I think they only do eastern states. I think im going to construct using Hebel Power blocks and then line it with timber afterwards. Weathertex make some nice looking natural weather boards. http://www.weathertex.com.au/products/natural/weatherboards/selflok-ecogroove-150-natural/ Re: Retaining wall ideas 5Jan 30, 2016 4:48 pm Hi Depends what material you are using. And what you want to spend. I used car pine and put jarrah on top as a seat. I bought an electric plane from Bunnings and ran it over the jarrah. It came up a treat, very smooth. Then I stained it all jarrah. You could do the pine as well but I'm not sure if the cca treated stuff will have any issues. You're not taking a lot off with the plane so the timber should still be protected. The plan was ~$200 plus less than an hour of my time to do 4 lengths and clean up. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 1327 Hi guys We have just removed a very large grape vine which was mounted to a structure along this wall. This is a shared wall with our neighbour, and after removal, we… 0 3170 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 11035 |
