Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 11, 2016 3:37 pm We're in melbourne and I've been really wanting to lay a sapphire buffalo lawn in our backyard. Our backyard has been scraped and 10 cm of top soil put on but within a couple of weeks couch grass has appeared and it seems very invasive, quick to grow and hard to kill! I've been pulling out couch grass and applying yates weed killer but more grows within a day or two. If I plant a buffalo over the existing soil which prob has an extensive system of couch growing, will the buffalo survive or should I try another grass such as kikuyu? thanks Re: Wanting to plant buffalo but has couch invading-advise p 2Jan 11, 2016 4:36 pm Use Roundup instead. Water the area well every second day or so to get the couch sprouting up and growing well then hit it with glyposhate- round up or yates or whatever brand you want. Once it dies off 1-2 weeks, water again and push any remaining couch to grow again then spray it again. 2 times should do it. The problem with buffalo is once a foreign grass invades it is very hard to selectively remove it without significant damage to the buffalo. I am looking for someone who might have tackled a similar issue as me. I have a few rendered interior walls, the surface condition is hardly flat.
