Hi everyone, we are planning on doing our own landscaping in the coming months in Melbourne.
Just wanting some advise re: soil prep in Melbourne.
We recently scraped and cleared top 50-100mm off our yard and bought in a "lawn mix" which is 60 percent screened soil and 40 percent compost. It feels very sandy though. I have read Fu Manchu's info re soil prep and am wondering whether we should follow it to a tee for Melbourne soil ie: bentonite, zeolite, compost and spongolite. I want our new soil to have the best start! Any advise where we can get all these for as cheap as possible? we have about 180 square meters of lawn to lay.
Also, I've really liked the look of buffalo grass but finding it hard to find a place where i can actually look at the real thing. Palmetto sounds good, but also interested in sir walter, and sapphire. My neighbours got matilda buffalo and it is beautiful but I don't think my house is shady enough. Any suggestion re: best looking buffalo? When we turf, we are planning on spacing it out and letting it grow as means of saving costs. Any one have experience with this and did it turn out ok? what do I do re: weeds that grow? Poison or pull out?
thanks
