Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 04, 2015 8:37 am Morning all We have been living in our house for 3 years now and have been having some issues with a 3yo sapphire lawn and I am hoping someone may be able to offer some advice First year it was put down it was awesome, grew well and had a lovely leafy appearance to it. It took really quickly and looked awesome. I watered the hell out of it as I was advised and it thrived Last year, and this year though I have found it isn't as leafy and is very very heavily covered in seed and I don't for the life f me know why.... I have been using a product called Turf Supreme 16-2-6 which seems to have made a difference but it doesn't fix it. It grows like mad, I mowed it last night and filled 2 full large green otto bins, but its not that nice leafy look I am hoping for. It appears to hold a lot of moisture as it weighs a tonne!!!! but it doesn't have that awesome leafy appearance I want!!!!!! Does anyone have any advice? Brad Re: Why does my Sapphire seed so much..... 4Dec 10, 2015 3:04 pm I was under the impression that anything that runs to seed ( including lawns ) is under stress. Despite the fact that you give it lots of water and fertiliser, maybe the soil is compacted and needs aeration. One good watering a week is all most lawns need. Maybe you have given it too much water and/or fertiliser ? What sort of soil prep did you do? As per Fu Manchus excellent guide... viewtopic.php?f=19&t=43570 ? Stewie Why does my Sapphire seed so much..... 5Dec 10, 2015 4:20 pm Tis the season for lawn seeding.. All grasses produce seed head, some about this time a year others later. They will do this no matter how well looked after. When it becomes excessive then you might want to check the water is getting deeper enough into the soil. If the lawn water stresses a lot it will seed. So water deep and frequent enough so it doesn't stress. Some grasses are better than others, I know Sir Walter seeds a lot and Sapphire is supposedly bred from it. Re: Why does my Sapphire seed so much..... 6Feb 17, 2016 7:47 pm Sapphire is a good breed of buffalo lawn I have done much research on it and decided to buy myself against sir walter. Is your lawn thatchy at all? Bufallo will generally seed badly at least once or twice a year which is normal however constant seeding is a dead giveaway to a lawn that is under stress. I would stop using all your fertilisers and recommend the below. 1. Dethatch your lawn as per recommendations for buffalo 2. Aerate your soil you can buy shoes on ebay that will aerate the soil however more professionally and better advice would be to hire a proper aerator machine to do the job properly. 3. Spray seasol (seaweed extract) on your lawn lightly 4. 2 days later sprinkle a very thin tiny as layer of loamy sandy soil don't cover the leaf just a fine sprinkle all over. 5. Sprinkle buffalo booster you can buy from bunnings over the lawn or another good one is shirleys 17 I would not recommend any other type of fertiliser apart from these two on buffalo lawn. 6. After you have applied fertiliser water in well sufficient amount but don't soak/flood the lawn 7. Watch the progress for the next 7-10 days and mow when ready probably only take 2cm off the grass tops. 8. Immediately after finishing mowing water your lawn light sprinkle 9. 2 days later spray with seasol again. 10 7-10 days later mow again chopping just the tops off the grass again. 11. Water lawn once a week after this depending on where you live? By the way where do you live? That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17875 Hi All, I just wanted to close this topic out with an update. So we ended up agreeing to a number with the insurance company, and after an extensive amount of hand… 8 23403 A Sabco spin mop, minimal moisture, not very regularly.
