Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 28, 2015 10:34 am Hi All, Complete novice here and after receiving a crapload of quotes, decided to do it myself. Well some it anyway. I've got the excavator coming in the next few weeks to level it out and lay a concrete slab under the shed and the pergola area but what I need him to do is well is to level out the turf area. Our soil is crappy hard clay so will need some work ala Fu's advice, however I have a couple of questions before we get started. 1. I plan on putting grass from the fence to the house in the section I'm grassing. Can I do this? How much soil needs to be removed below the weep line to do all of the prep as well as adding additional good soil/compost? 2. Do I need to put a barrier of some description next to the fence line to stop the neighbours crap growing in my grass? If so what should I use? 3. We are planning on having a raised garden bed that sits about 40-50cm up the fence. What's the easiest way to shield the fence from the soil both from moisture and the weight of the soil bending the fence? Got to admit, I'm a little scared and completely out of my depth. But hey, that's why I've come here to ask. And of course I'll add progress pics along the way. Re: Yogie's landscape thread - turf, path & paving - Help 2Oct 28, 2015 8:34 pm Hi 1. Really need a pic to understand what your on about here. 2 . Depends on budget but not bad idea. Could use 75 ×25 mm timber edge or a paver edge. Seeds from next doors crappy grass can be airborne though. 3. What material are you using for the raised bed ?Timber, brick? Probably use same material next to fence.
