Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 19, 2015 12:11 pm Help!! New turf has yellowed and browned in places due to being kept rolled and on the pallet for a number of days after delivery. The turf farm was aware that we were not going to be able to lay it straight away, but we couldn't delay the order as it had already been cut and loaded on the truck the night before. I rang them at 8pm, it was too late. We fell behind in our soil prep due to underestimating the time it would take to get a pop up sprinkler system in. So 5 pallets of Palmetto buffalo was delivered along intervals on our nature strip (which we still hadn't put underlay on). The turf farm said it will be fine for 3-4 days. I asked if we needed to unroll the turf to help it survive, they said no need to. There were 3 very warm days following and we watered the pallets to keep it cool (big mistake I later found out, as this makes it actually heat up more esp in the middle of the pallet! ) What is the best course of action to help the turf establish and survive ? We prepped and laid in sections so we could move each pallet to access the next section to be prepped. The pallets were distributed across all areas that needed to be turfed. Anyway, we managed to get about 75sqm laid in the front yard within 36 hours of delivery : Pic taken 5 days after laying. So 48 hours after the front was laid, we laid the corner section: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And 12 hours later, we laid half of the side nature strip: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The worst in this area looks like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Then 12 hours after that we laid the other half of the side: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The worst in this area looks like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The runners under the dried out/brown sections are still green. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So far we are watering heavily twice a day. I stick my finger in the soil and if the first couple of inches are wet, we don't water the late afternoon/evening round. I have done one round of seasol, will be doing a molasses round today. Will do weekly for the next 4 weeks. Will add powerfeed to the mix when the turf strengthens a bit. Our heavy clay soil had been graded, ripped and rotary hoed with zeolite and certified organic compost to 150mm, and all large rocks, shale and clay clods removed. The underlay is about 75mm of organic 80/20 sandy loam. There is a dusting of MycoApply Defence on the damp underlay before we laid. We compacted (using a plate compactor) some sections of the underlay before laying (other sections, it was too late in evening to roar the compactor), but we were too afraid to compact the turf after laying as it was so fragile. Soil was raked before laying but I am worried that there are places where there is less than optimal soil contact. Should I give it a round with a roller ? I am not too fussed about levels right now, I just want the grass to survive Re: HELP ! Kept turf rolls on pallet for too long before lay 3Jan 15, 2016 3:57 pm yeah, i just laid mine. Didn't realize some of my lawn wasn't getting water for a day or so, went brown, though it was dead but it came back after a few weeks. Just give it plenty of water and fertilizer can help. I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1932 Hey There. No problems re jumping in. My original question was "should I have waterproofed" the concrete slab before putting batons down. We have been told we should… 7 4327 Not sure if that works? I was told the issue is the headspace clearance requirement on step 4. My builder is proposing shifting the beam 310mm towards the kitchen...I'm… 2 2540 |
