Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 10, 2015 7:24 pm Hi All, About 3 weeks ago i had the ground in my frontyard, backyard and side pathways excavated of building waste and then partially leveled. Now before all this was done i had really bad drainage problems down the side of the house, so i asked the landscape guy to install some drainage. I was never present during the work as i work almost 12 hours a day. I've been reading how drainage pipes are usually run and the photo the guy sent me doesn't look like what i have seen. I'm worried it wont do the trick and in the future I'll have to dig up the pavers im planning on laying this week. Now my question is does anyone have any professional experience with this sort of thing? I need some re-assurance whether i should re-do it all and do it properly or whether it will work fine. Here are some pics of before the leveling, during the pipe being added and afterwards. In relation to your paving question if you covered the soil with a double layer of builders plastic falling towards an aggi drain trench you could lay the pebbles on top of that. Drainage help !! 4Jul 10, 2015 9:38 pm Was the pipe slotted as Bashworth pointed out? Or is the landscaper going to lay the paving and grade it into the drainage points? Not a great idea to slope paving towards the foundations if thats the case.. Re: Drainage help !! 5Jul 10, 2015 10:42 pm Im not entirely sure, i'll be digging up a section tomorrow to check .. but im sure its most likely just plain pvc pipe .. which is why i didnt think that was rightly done .. could i drill holes in it myself ? And add the stone aswell ? I guess thats the type of work you get when trying to do stuff cheap . Re: Drainage help !! 6Jul 11, 2015 10:04 am If you're going to collect the surface water on hard paving, and drain it into the drains, it's probably not so important to have sub-surface drainage. Re: Drainage help !! 7Jul 11, 2015 8:39 pm If it's going to be fully paved then there is no need for sub drainage as mentioned above. Grade the paving into the grates which is a little tricky or instead install a strip drain across the width of the paving connecting into the points and grade the paving to the strips. Re: Drainage help !! 8Jul 12, 2015 8:24 am You need to grade the surrounding site correctly around the house. The surrounding should have a 1:25 fall away from the house Re: Drainage help !! 9Jul 14, 2015 12:07 pm As per what others have said above if you are not concreting those side areas, you need a slotted stormwater pipe like the second photo on this page http://www.iplex.com.au/iplex.php?page= ... =13&sec=86 then a nylon sock over it or geotech fabric laid over it to stop silt blocking the pipe then 100 -150mm of 20mm gravel on both sides and over the top to help with the drainage. You also need at least 1:100 fall or better to where the pipes terminate to so you have decent fall and the water can easily get away. Anything less and you are just wasting your time. Stewie Hi HomeOne, I'm in the midst of landscaping a cat run down the side of my house, and the recent rains have me wondering if I need to install some sort of drainage.
