We have got Santa Ana Couch turf laid 3 months ago in Melbourne. It is generally in good health but we have started to notice worm castings for a couple of weeks. No visible damage has been done to the lawn yet Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Could these be Army Worms/Sod Web Worms? I see worms now and then but not a lot of them in our lawn. Can someone please advice whether I should be worried about these and the action that I should take to destroy them? Thanks Can someone advice what these are in our lawn? 2Jul 08, 2015 9:58 pm Hi,
For whatever reason i can't see your pics.. But it sounds like normal worm activity at this time of year in Melb. The soil is moist continuously and the temperatures low which allows the worms to come to the surface of the soil. There is definately no need to kill them off, they are not damaging your lawn in any way. In fact they are very beneficial by aerating & improving the soil for you. Just clean up the castings if they bother you. As soon as the temps rise the worms will go deeper into the soil where it is cooler. The only issue i find the bird pecking holes in the lawn trying to eat the worms. No big deal as the lawn will self repair.
