Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 25, 2006 11:30 am anyone know roughly how much driveway could cost? I'm not quite sure with the size but it's 6m X 6m. what material is best for driveway? Re: driveway cost 2Oct 26, 2006 10:15 am I'd be interested in what other people think as well, and if anyone can recommend a good quality contractor who does exposed aggregrate driveways.
From what I know, though, it depends on what kind of driveway you're after, ie. plain concrete, coloured, stamped, stencilled, exposed aggregrates. Price can vary between $40 up to $90/m2. I guess other factors may come into play as well, such as ground condition, slope, etc. Re: driveway cost 3Oct 30, 2006 7:24 pm Depending on the work needed on the site, a 6m x6m coloured concrete driveway would cost you between $2500 -$3000 Re: driveway cost 4Feb 14, 2007 9:15 pm I relise this is a too late a reply for the original request for info, but just in case anyone else is looking to find out approx driveway cost....
We have just received 2 quotes for a 13m long driveway that starts as a double width and narrows to one and half (sorry not the right lingo, but I really have no idea what its all called). Both were very close to $4500 and apparantly didnt matter if we got stencilled or just coloured. That price doesn't include the slight excavation that they will need to do though. However, one of the companies offered to do the excavation for free if we would give them the dirt. Fine with me!! I am also looking for contractor to do drive way. What do you think of these two quotes? Are you happy with one of them? Are they trustworthy ? If you donnot mind, would you please provide their contact no., so I can ask for a quote from them? You can send it to my personal mailbox in HOMEONE.COM.AU. Thanks in Advance Re: driveway cost 6Apr 22, 2007 12:00 pm Hi,
Just received a quote from a concreter to lay a new driveway (there isn't one there right now, just gravel). I asked for stencilcrete for 116m. Reason for it being so large is that we have a pretty large yard as it is and we want to be able to use the other area under the house as a second driveway. (It makes sense when you see it, the gravel is already there). Anyway, quote was $12,430. Ouch. Anyone got any advice whether this is reasonable? I was expecting a few thousand but not to get over that $10,000 mark. My partner is now talking about doing it himself, and leaving it as normal concrete. I think that would look ugly as it is quite a large area of it, plus we probably won't get a good finish on it either... I really want this driveway (and sooner rather than later as the weeds make the gravel unmanagable), so any advice would be gratefully received! Kim Re: driveway cost 7Apr 22, 2007 4:15 pm Ours was 120sq m stencilled concrete, with the relocated crossover, for $7.5k
We got him to make it a bit thicker & use the next size up mesh as well, so it could take heavier vehicles if required (like a tow truck..,,,, yes, I'm into cars!) Re: driveway cost 8Apr 22, 2007 4:42 pm Kim,
That seems a bit pricey... Depending on a few things like slope etc, i would have thought $10K would be ample?? Shop around I think.... ![]() Matt Re: driveway cost 9Apr 22, 2007 4:49 pm Hi commodorenut,
When did you get it done? I would happily pay around the $7k mark. There was nothing special about what they are going to do as far as I am aware. Would the option of getting it concreted (just regular grey concrete) and then have it sprayed on a few years later (instead of one big hit) be a good choice or even any cheaper at all? How great is the quality difference between the spray and the stencil stuff? Thanks Kim Re: driveway cost 10Apr 22, 2007 4:51 pm It is completely flat ground (our whole block is). Does that make a difference?
I will definitely shop around but I have to say I was a little shocked because I was really hopeful I could just go ahead with it. Re: driveway cost 11Apr 22, 2007 6:11 pm HI Kim,
We were quoted $80 per cubic metre for exposed aggregate. That included rio, boxing etc and was 3 clearly defined area's. If your block is flat, then you should shop around. Matt PS. What area are you in? Re: driveway cost 13Apr 23, 2007 11:34 am We were quoted $1600 for our gravel driveway. We were also quoted $2200, $1100 and $850.
The guy for the last quote threw his back and so we went with the $1100. Shop around, you can halve you price sometimes. Just make sure that the quality will be the same. We also built a concrete driveway and a tar driveway and both times got multiple quotes with a wide range. Never just get one quote! 3xb Re: driveway cost 14Apr 24, 2007 3:53 pm It was a while ago when I did my exposed aggregate driveway and paths but the cheapest way for me was as follows, which may not be possible in all cases but you get the idea.
The builder and all his subbies knew I was doing landscaping etc myself so I was always given leftover scraps of timber etc that they couldn't be bothered with. Every time I was on site I cleaned up all the rubbish for them keeping any good bits of leftovers for myself.....even small squares of rio which I tie wired together. With all the freebie timber I boxed up all the paths and driveway myself. On the builders account (great bloke) I ordered the steel and concrete and then re-imbursed him in CASH. I hired one concreter to help me. I did all the barrowing and he did the screeding off and finishing. ...worked well for me Re: driveway cost 15Apr 24, 2007 8:46 pm ![]() Hi commodorenut, When did you get it done? How great is the quality difference between the spray and the stencil stuff? Thanks Kim Ours was around 3 years ago. We were initially quoted $55 per sq m, but this blew out when we needed additional road base under it, and when we had to replace 6m of council gutter as it kept crumbling away when we tried to sawcut it. The same guy is still doing it for $60/m for that size of driveway. We later had the front porch sprayed to match the drive, and it was $300 for only a small area - minimum job charge! As far as laying it plain, and spraying it later, when my neighbour saw my new drive, he got his old one sprayed - paying almost as much as a new one. 6 months later he ripped it all up & laid an entire new driveway. Our drive was dead flat - from the level of the top of the kerb to the garage was within 3mm of being level. The concreter crowned it in the middle by 50mm, some 6m out from the garage. The front 2/3 runs to the street and also the grass, while the rear third runs to a strip drain across the front of the garage. It drains really well, even in massive downpours. We have only 1 minor crack across it, that you can hardly see. I am very pleased. Re: driveway cost 17Apr 26, 2007 5:50 pm hi all,
This topic is very relevant to my husband and I at the moment. We are building our new home with ******. We are tossing up wheter to go with their quote to do our driveways/ path or look for our own contractor to do the job. We have been quoted $2,500 for up to 36m2 of 100mm thick, 25mpa(not sure what that means) coloured concrete, and we also have to move our driveway because our garage is being built on our right of the block and the driveway is on the left. This quote also doesn't include enough contrete to do between the footpath and the road, so we are going to have to get someone to do that for us anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions and advise on costs? i'm thinking it might be easier to get someone to do everthing at once? Thanks to intoxicated for starting the topic! Re: driveway cost 18Oct 18, 2013 11:28 pm trying to bring back this old thread alive!! it's 2013 now....previous post is from 2007. Does anyone in Brisbane who built a house in 2013 have updated figures on how much the cost for different type of driveways? I saw the neighbour across the road when they did their new driveway, the contractors put down Metal square sheeting down before the put concrete on...then tiles to go on top after that again. Is that a standard procedure? Re: driveway cost 19Jul 20, 2020 6:10 am ![]() trying to bring back this old thread alive!! it's 2013 now....previous post is from 2007. Found this in another post https://driveways.com.au/ which I found useful, obviously different state but does provide for some idea at least. Seems half the threads & posts here don't get any response. My driveway is looking pretty dull. I am weighing between painting and resurfacing. It has no cracks or major damage. Has a few chipped edges. I understand that pressure… 0 6110 When you get a chance watch the last couple of videos. The cracks are pretty bad, it's almost as though he hasn't put any reo in that corner and hasn't compacted/levelled… 2 2025 ![]() a good choice would be to pay for relocation , because as kvazer said it depends on your council regulations. is a great place if you're looking to do that. 2 2933 |
