Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 05, 2015 11:19 pm Hi putting it out there which trees to use. We have a north facing fenced off front yard and I was wondering whether to put in hybiscus, bamboo in pots or magnolia trees. With a medium shrub in between and small mondo grass at front. I have a black thumb so am challeneged already. Live north of the river any places to go to? THANKS Re: Help what plants to use-you get a say! 2May 06, 2015 10:09 am Not sure where you are, but - dwarf oleanders can be nice - green leaves and lovely flowers (a variety). Don't believe the nonsense about poisons etc - so long as you don't plan to eat them ... They grow to about 1.5 mts - not like the big ones. Hardy and can take poor soils. Quite a nice "hedge" affect too - if you plant a few - alternate the flower colours. I also like camellias - many varieties - some can handle sun very well, and rhododendrons. Re: Help what plants to use-you get a say! 4May 06, 2015 5:39 pm Yeah - I like them. Look out for the evergreen - they often call them "Singapore". They can still lose their leaves - but may not - unless you get a frost. Plasterboard Gyprock is very popular as a reveal liner these days. You need to provide a way of supporting it, we use a modified timber reveal or bracket. You will be… 1 3016 Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine. 2 10229 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17829 |
