Well done Thanks, Not sure what to suggest as I don't know what stage or how far your gone but I used a wooden pallet on some rope to pull it around before I laid the turf. Once the lawn was laid and caught on I've spreaded some soil over the get it even more level. It was a slow process! Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 31Dec 18, 2015 9:03 am Loving the lawn porn. We are also going to start soil prep and turfing our back yard soon. May i ask you a few questions? I'm based in the Melbourne eastern suburbs. We are interested in the Sapphire Buffalo too, but also the Palmetto. Where did you purchase the sapphire buffalo from and are you happy with the supplier? any idea where I can view these different grasses in person? In terms of soil prep, where did you get the compost from and how much quantity? Did you follow fu manchus guide exactly? Where were you able to locate zeolite? We had 10cm of sandy loam over our front and back yard that was put over the top of existing soil that was scraped. I want to till the soil too to at least 20cm but I'm husband isn't sure about mixing the new sandy loam with the existing old soil (which he is also afraid may have building debris in it as our house is newly built), any suggestions there? thanks p.s. how's the lawn doing now? pics? Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 32Dec 18, 2015 9:59 am Hi there, I also have palmetto in the front and would recommend Sapphire. I obtained from Melbourne Brick. Not sure where you can view the grasses but if your in hr west feel free to drop in. As for the guide I did skimp on a few unobtainable items but can't remember which one.. Zeolite I recall obtaining from a pool place as its used as a filter material I believe... I followed fu man chu's guide as close as I could and I would add all the ingredients and then till the soil. I pulled so many tiles and building materials out it I could build a small house. Then at least you know you have mixed all the soils and goodies together. Just pick up anything bigger than 15-20cms.. It will all be covered up in the end. I'll post some pics of the palmetto and Sapphire tonight... Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 33Dec 18, 2015 7:13 pm May I ask why you prefer the sapphire to the palmetto? Just based on looks or other reasons? Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 34Dec 19, 2015 8:20 am happystarz May I ask why you prefer the sapphire to the palmetto? Just based on looks or other reasons? I gave Sapphire a go due to it being a newer breed of Buffalo recognised in Australia. I don't really know the history behind it. Sapphire imo because it feels softer, grass blades a folded in half giving the slimmer leaf, appears to grow slower, doesn't seem to have as many grass heads. The palmetto also appears to be building up a thatch later quite quickly giving that sponge feeling. Will have to see how the Sapphire goes in the long run. Here is a photo of the palmetto just mown this morning. Just a few more questions, did you spray the area with a round up or weed killer prior to rotary hoeing your soil? How long do you then leave it for before putting in your compost, zeolite etc? Or, can I spray it first with round up, wait, then dump the compost zeolite etc and then rotary hoe and flatten all in one go ? Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 36Dec 25, 2015 5:10 am Hi there, thanks! Yes I sprayed alot of roundup over the past years before we could get the lawn laid. I can't say how long to wait before you can start adding everything and turning the soil over but I have been advised that there are two types of weed killers ones for paths which the chemicals bind to the soil and the other which doesn't affect the soil. Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 38Jan 13, 2016 11:31 am wow that lawn is looking great, glad the guide i wrote as per Fu's reccomendation has come in handy for some. Using the guide myself now as i am doing my rear landscaping and looking at using Saphire too. Re: New Sapphire Buffalo lawn. 40Feb 23, 2016 10:13 am Hi psyko, we've finally gotten around to preparing our site for turf! We have a similar area of lawn to cover, may I ask how much powerfeed you used? It says 90mls per 9 Litre watering can on the bottle which is a bit confusing...thanks the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4819 A person needs to be licensed to offer financial advice.
