I use a small 50L plastic tank with a submersible pump and auto switch. When it rains it fills up and pumps the water to the larger tank at the other end of my property how big is your larger tank? Re: rain water tank 44Apr 07, 2009 4:26 pm Is the Rainwater Tank and Plumbing Rebate available for new homes? http://www.sawater.com.au/SAWater/YourH ... rtanks.htm I know it says: Eligible homes are generally homes for which an application for development approval was lodged before 1 July 2006. Seriously, I can't believe anyone would want scheme water before rainwater. ...and don't waste it on the dunny, and a cuppa is always better with rainwater Showers are heaps better, the soap actually lathers so you don't need much We have several rainwater tanks total capacity about 200kl. Been here 20 years, and have always had an canaster filter before the pump & I check it since I drink it Never seen any floaties and clean the tanks on rotation years just before the rains. Aside - Being a waterproofing contractor, I have repaired several thousand concrete rainwater and stock tanks over the years... Many murky 'things' have been removed, but this never put me off drinking our tank water, just vigilant Vistors from the city love the rain water and always fill up the bottles. Re: rain water tank 47Apr 09, 2009 7:12 pm No wonder it is so good The rain has come several thousand k's over unpolluted ocean and with unpolluted wind to land up on the amazing SW coast and run into your lucky tanks and no doubt used for your yabbies and veggies I'd be filling a bucket with those instead of a bottle of water Re: rain water tank 48Apr 09, 2009 7:55 pm Hmmm... well that set me straight But the crustaceans are Marron, they are some what bigger than yabbies272.JPG here is a baby Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: rain water tank 51Apr 11, 2009 11:50 am I was just trawling seeing if I could glean some info on what sort of tanks people have installed and what is best, we were thinking of having the VERY slimline (about 230mm wide) tanks along the fence but they seem to be very expensive and they are only 100lt each, has anyone had any experience with the "under slab" tanks? and if so are there any drawbacks? Vid Re: rain water tank 52Apr 11, 2009 5:39 pm 100ltrs isn't much... and then you have to deal with the over flow Underslab pillow tank Easily get 2 x 5000lts. or if you are intending any deck area, sink a tank like a pool and put a lid on it deck the top... if you ever need to do something with it you have access. Sorry meant to say 1 thousand litres, 1 hundred would be a bit useless, our slab for the house goes down in the next couple of weeks so we are too late for that but we thought maybe putting them/it under the shed (6x4mtr) but are a bit concerned about the longevity of them/it if they "go bad" how do you fix them, or is there anything that can fail? Re: rain water tank 55Apr 23, 2009 7:08 pm I reckon being able to clean a tank when you need to is a must. Will we be reading about these bladders and other hard to reach tanks being a bit seedy in years to come? I reckon Re: rain water tank 58Aug 10, 2009 2:55 pm I thought I had this all sorted out in my head BUT I went to another tank place and now I'm MORE confused, our plans state the following: ----------------------------------------------------- Denotes min. 3700L Detention Tank, as specified in council requirements. ----------------------------------------------------- Stormwater by owner. provide 1x2 module (1000L Min) Retention Tank Connected into WC and installed in accordance with government specifications. ----------------------------------------------------- My understanding of this until today was that if we got a 5000L tank connected it to a toilet (loop is already installed on the house for this) we could use the whole 5000L and when the tank got full the excess would then run into the stormwater. I was told today that we do need "at least" a 4700L tank BUT it will only ever hold 1000L for the toilet and the rest will automatically have to be discharged into the stormwater. This seems totally ludicrous, why on earth would you want to waste 4000 Ltr of water when you could use it ! Has anyone had this same story? I've also posted this in the Building SA section and another rainwater tank thread Re: Rain water tank rebate 59Aug 24, 2009 10:10 pm thlo In NSW, the government will give you a rebate for installing a tank. Rainwater tank rebate provides up to $1500 for rainwater tanks depending on the extent to which you want to cut mains water usage. http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/rebates/ Does anyone know if there is a similar rebate for Victoria? Is it available to anyone? Any conditions to get it? [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. Can a plumber put a tap on a rain water tank which is full? Tank is similar to one in photo.
