Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 23, 2015 9:59 am Hi Everyone We are doing a KDR in the North eastern suburbs of Adelaide. We have quite reactive soilk. We are currently living in the house we are going to knock down and the pavers for the driveway and around the house are very uneven. We had to re-pave down the side of the house in 2012 due to some plumbing work and even those pavers are now very uneven (although we only used sand underneath). This has put me off pavers. I am now considering two options for the alfresco, perimeter paths and driveway: 1. Coloured concrete now, and paving over the top a few years down the track. I don't mind the look of coloured concrete, but I don't think it looks great over large areas like the alfresco. I think the concrete will crack, so paving over the top could cover up the cracks, but the concrete would keep the paving stable over time. We won't be able to afford concrete + paving straight away so we would be waiting a little while for paving and the alfresco won't look that great in the meantime. 2. Pattern pave concrete/stamped concrete. I really like the look of this, but again I am worried that it will crack and look crappy. And would we be unable to pave over the top if it did as the surface is uneven? This would be the cheaper option but if the cracks are really noticeable and it starts looking crappy in a few years... DH is leaning towards pattern pave concrete, I am leaning towards concrete + paving over the tope. I would really appreciate any insights or opinions! Thankyou Re: Reactive soil - Concrete + Paving or pattern pave concre 3Apr 08, 2015 1:24 pm Just a suggestion, perhaps talk to a few concretors re your soil type. Hopefully a few opinions will give you a solution. You may need extra reo added to the pour as well. You will soon suss out if they are just wanting your work or are being genuinely helpful with information and advice. Re: Reactive soil - Concrete + Paving or pattern pave concre 4Apr 08, 2015 4:05 pm I went with concrete (coloured) for perimeter and exp agg for driveway, this time instead of pavers, yes with reactive soil class of E-D/ P(fill). In your case, I will opt for pattern pave concrete as my choice. http://boostaoakfordsa.wordpress.com Site works: 26/8/14 Trench: 2/9/14 Slab: 8/9/14 Frame: 18/9/14 Bricks: 24/10/14 2nd fix: 24/11/14 Handover: End Feb 2015 With that sort of soil type if you ask for a design to include piers then I would also include void formers. That way you should reduce the chances of settlement and heave. 7 3803 Generally, the texture that you listed will have a 2mm size stone chip in it which is dragged with float to give the lines Any patch work needs to be 2mm less than face… 2 1652 As most others have posted above the install isn't compliant. The pipe is meant to be covered in loose soil or sand, the pipe has holes in it that leaks out a termicide… 10 4654 |
