Plants with small root systems

Hi, we are currently landscaping our front yard ourselves.
I'm wanting to plant large shrubs or small to medium tree out the front of the house against windows as the main bedroom is at the front.

What plant is safe to plant this close to the house? As our house is on a slab.
Im wanting something that is low maintenance. Can be a Australian Native.

Thanks
Firstly plant away from the slab as far as you can. Secondly the roots of any shrub will only grow where there is moisture, so don't water near the slab.. Keep it dry = no roots.

A better solution for screening those windows would be awnings or even tinting. Alternatively blockout blinds or curtains if light is an issue...?

Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine.
