Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 26, 2015 4:20 pm I'm bowled over in shock at a basic landscaping job quote for $74,000. Small local guy with no fancy design skills. Quote doesn't include plants, Pavers or wall blocks (small wall) Do people seriously pay these amounts? Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 3Feb 26, 2015 5:15 pm Ponzu More detail around what you asked for please Yes...it would help just a tad. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 4Feb 26, 2015 5:21 pm My suggestion - think about doing it yourself. Its not that hard - but you have to plan - ie draw a plan on paper. Watering systems are not hard - just time consuming. Pick the plants - you'll probably get them for the same price. Sub-contract the lawn - if you must - and the edging. But - plan it - its not that hard ! Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 5Feb 26, 2015 8:31 pm Sorry for limited detail. I'm mostly venting! Levelling / excavation (30cm cut in one corner), small retaining wall down one side (around 40 metres max), basic lawn, few garden beds, driveway, privacy screen, alfresco paving & irrigation to garden beds only. No plants, guy wasn't providing retaining wall blocks or pavers for some reason. Its a smallish yard, 6 x 15m at front, 10 x 15m at back. That's pretty much it. We won't be able to do the retaining wall ourselves or the excavation work. Too hard soil and not enough time up our sleeves. Edited to add, I actually have the plan, I just need to have someone do the work. I did the landscaping plan myself and there's no real design work required. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 6Feb 26, 2015 8:55 pm i would get another quote and this seems abit high. also try and get prices for your driveway separate. and the retaining wall. this prices is high considering he is not even supplying blocks etc. i was quoted for two very long retaining walls clearing of site rocks and adding ponds and paving and plants . on a sloping block 6500 including mulch as well. this price from a landscaper with 20 years experience. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 7Feb 27, 2015 9:16 am I would think 30000 including plants would be more appropriate. My landscapers gave very detailed quotes including the cost of every plant, hours of labour etc. Have you got a broken down quote? I would definitely get another couple of quotes. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 8Feb 27, 2015 10:04 am joannek I would think 30000 including plants would be more appropriate. Agreed 20 to 30 thousand would be about right from what I've seen elsewhere. And yes, that would include plants and turf. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 9Feb 28, 2015 1:41 pm Driveway around $100 a sq metre installed.. Retaining wall block with concretre filling, $450-550 a metre installed. Paving on concrete slab about $200 per m2 installed. It adds up quick.. Reckon 70k is a tad high but without knowing more details its a guess. Your job isn't exactly small either btw. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 10Mar 02, 2015 12:44 pm BeatrixKiddo Your job isn't exactly small either btw. This here, is exactly what I am thinking.. for a 40m Retaining wall is HUGE! I got a quote for a 10m x 1.4m retaining wall that alone with not else would of cost me $10,500 so you're 4 times as long.. $40,000 for retaining wall if they were to go with my price above. Get a second quote or even a third one and see how you go with it. Good luck. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 11Mar 02, 2015 1:23 pm Yup,at the end of the day multiple quotes is the rule of thumb for every job. I agree with everyone above, a second or third quote won't hurt. - Build thread- My Allegra- Dream by Henley Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 13Mar 05, 2015 7:56 pm Its all labour costs... Do the soft scaping if you can. Doesn't need specialised equipment to do.. Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 14Mar 06, 2015 4:16 pm yeah 40m retaining wall is probably the reason for the cost - how high is this retaining wall? Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 15Mar 18, 2015 3:04 pm We got one of these quotes, but worse $172,000 for A brick letter box with matching brick rectangle on other side of drive way A 15 m by 0.6m H retaining wall using bricks we already have A 20m long driveway plus a pathway. The guy did not even have a portfolio to show pictures... it was the funniest quote I have ever had because I don't know who would pay that money. The person did not listen to what we asked for I mean seriously $8.4K for a Brick Letterbox The quote was so laughable it was not funny. I had lots of other quotes and they are averaging at $46K for the lot! Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 16Mar 18, 2015 3:21 pm $172k.. lol.. that is hilarious. We got one quote from a company that has direct access to all our site drawings so they could be more accurate than anyone else at this stage and they came back with something around 60k. Put in context, our block is 383 with a 29sq house on it, plus our driveway is included in our building tender so it would not be additional or part of the landscaping. I laughed at that also.. an got another quote for the same, which came to be $15,000 without retaining walls which we are getting separately. $15k included 50 x 140mm plants, 30 x 200mm plants, all garden bed edges in ACQ treated pine, 20mm river pebbles on one side, paving at other side and rear of 39sqm in total, a brick letter box, and approx 140sqm Sir Walter Buffalo turf, plus raised garden beds using ACQ treated pine sleepers and 2 fruit trees... suffice to say, a decent amount of landscaping for a reasonable price.. But $135,991 for landscaping is a no no for me. here is the breakdown, masonry retaining wall-$32,956,00 north side palling fence-26meters -$2002,00 south side boundary fence- $847 west side palling fence-16 meters-$1232,00 west side sleeper retaining wall-$4741,00 south side merbau boundary wall (as per developer by the way) $14,454,00 painting of paling fence internal-$1699,00 concrete paths around the house , exposed aggregate which is 100mmthick with RF72 re-enforcement mesh-$9234,00 not finished yet, they thought it through. concrete slab for paving-$8981,00 pool coping ( I thought the pool company was doing this, somehow these guys have quoted us for it)-$3190,00 paving 500x500x20mm natural stone with 3:1 mortar base-$13,013,00 garden beds, edging, feature rocks and mulch-$9592,00 turf-$4928,00 plants$7084,00 front yard feature-$2310,00 front rendered pillars with Merbau infill- $9278,00 pool fence and feature posts-$9482,00 of course I would love a veggie patch-$968,00. Done - Build thread- My Allegra- Dream by Henley Re: Huge Quote for basic landscaping 20Jun 17, 2015 11:00 pm I think we will have to do some of it ourselves! Still having troubles getting landscaper quotes. Yeah, I know my job aint small. Haven't had any other quotes since the massive one despite having more people through. Getting a quote out of a landscaper seems to equate to extracting blood from a stone. I got driveway quotes separate and am going to start with that to get me kick started! My driveway and crossover with coloured concrete ended up being quoted at $9K, which is about 14 metres long roughly. My retaining wall is 50cm tall at its highest, but that's only for a few metres. Most of the way its around 20cm. edited to add: by basic landscaping, I meant grass and a couple of garden beds rather than size of the block. Its not a fancy design with fire pits and landscaping around a pool, or cabanas and ponds etc. etc. They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 5823 hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20890 I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14299 |
