Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 23, 2015 10:59 am Hi, I have a sapphire buffalo lawn which was laid in about 3 months ago. So far the turf is looking healthy. However, i notice the lawn level has dropped significantly. I was expecting the lawn to be at the same height as the pathway beside it, but now is about 5-7cm lower than the pathway. the lawn is also a bit bumpy. I am pretty sure that my landscaper did not do his job properly and now i am faced with this problem. My question is, how do i increase the level of my lawn? i was thinking the easiest way would be top dressing the lawn, but with 7cm of top dressing, i would have to do it multiple times. Also, i heard that top dressing a buffalo lawn that much would only cause a thicker thatch layer. I also thought of pulling the lawn and fill soil underneath it and re-lay the lawn. But i am not sure how to go with this as i haven't found a step by step guide on how to pull the lawn with spade such that it doesnt die... Helppp... Re: How to increase the level of lawn 2Feb 23, 2015 7:55 pm Top dressing will work and thatch won't be a huge issue. You will need to do it in stages so there is always leaf showing each time you put soil on it. Best to just use a sandy loam with very little organic matter in it, as a soil with heaps of manure/compost will sink again as it decomposes. The other way is to hire a turf cutter.. The big hire joints have them. Cut off your turf into managable slabs then raise your soil height and re-lay. Heavy work but with quick results. Again use a sandy loam as above. And do the job in one to two days so the turf doesn't dry out. Now is the time to do any of the above before it gets too cold in winter.. Re: How to increase the level of lawn 3Feb 24, 2015 9:19 am Hi BeatrixKiddo Thanks for your reply. I will do this now and hopefully can raise it by a few cm before winter comes, and then will do the remaining leveling during spring time.
