Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 17, 2015 7:25 pm Hi Guys, Loved reading all the information re soil prep, thanks everyone.. Last week I had an excavator scape out my backyard taking the top layer of soil and all the overgrown grass after finishing a renovation.. I then had some new top soil put in ready for laying new turf.. Since then in Melbourne we had a massive down pour over the weekend and my new soil is now really firm which is apparently good however I've not yet levelled it or adjusted the proper heights against my edging.. Am I best to run rotary hoe over the soil to loosen so I can level it? It's just too hard to run a rake or soil leveller over it.. Not sure the best thing to do?? Appreciate any suggestions.. Ta Rick Re: Rotary Hoe after heavy rain before laying new turf? 2Feb 17, 2015 7:37 pm Yes I would run the rotary hoe over the ground to loosen the soil and aerate it again and then re-level with rake or leveller. You'll end up with a much better base than trying to break up the hard crust. Good luck, btw what variety of turf are you laying? I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1938 Hey There. No problems re jumping in.
