Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 09, 2015 11:04 am Hey all I have an 'L' shaped backyard with a deeper end section. 4.2m from house to fence on the side running up the house and 15m from end of house to rear of yard. I was hoping to put in a narrow garden bed (1m out from fence) on the side running up the house and run that possibly 15m+ up the yard. This side of the yard the deck faces out to and also the large widows in the kitchen living areas. I've always loved cherry blossom trees. That pink in spring is just so amazing. I was hoping to get some information on a good variety of cherry blossom tree to run down the garden bed in intervals (possibly with another flowering shrub in between) right up the garden bed. The idea being during spring when looking out the main living windows and while out on the deck you see pink running right up the side of the house. I guess I'm looking for a pink flowering blossom and one that doesn't get too high or wide. Would be happy with 3m high and in regards to width, thats not so important as I can space them out to suit. Any ideas on a flowering shrub that would work well this these? I also like Port Wine Magnolias. Area is Nagmabie, in country Victoria. Cold winters with occasional frost and hot dry summers. Re: Short cherry blossom trees to run up side of house? 3Feb 09, 2015 11:39 am Ponzu i would avoid planting any tree that close to your foundations. Yeah, fair call. I would have assumed planting 3.5m from the slab would be far enough for a small trees roots not to reach. I'm not looking for a full size cherry blossom tree. Is 3.5m still too close for some of the dwarf varieties? Re: Short cherry blossom trees to run up side of house? 4Feb 09, 2015 1:25 pm how tall do the dwarf verieties get? Remembe rthat its not just the roots you need to be wary of but how the trees affect the equilibrium of moisure around your house. So having trees sucking out water from the ground on one side woud presumably have some impact aswell. Re: Short cherry blossom trees to run up side of house? 5Feb 10, 2015 1:54 pm I've been looking at getting one of these for the corner of my front yard - might be a good option for you also? http://www.flemings.com.au/ornamental_d ... LT_ID=AMAN They are meant to get to 5 metres tall but are also relatively slow growing. My problem is finding a nursery that stocks them! 7 6249 I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7516 |
