Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 02, 2015 4:59 pm Hi all, Its been over a year I moved into the my new home. Backyard and frontyard still needs to be sorted, its been long due. I have got the metal fence up across the block. Block size is 16m(w)X32m(deep). There is more than 2m empty space all across between house and boundary. There is a fall of 900mm from right hand side corner to left hand side corner. So I need to put the retaining wall throughout the property to fill soil and level it all up. One of the neighbor has already put 1 sleeper throughout the length of the fence, directly under the fence, so there is no wastage of space and it holds the soil as well. I was think about doing the similar thing, but tradies are charging too much cost. Can anyone please give a cost effective idea to build retaining wall without wasting space from my block? Been thinking about the sleepers under the fence would do both jobs privacy, save space and look tidy. thank you Re: Retaining wall 2Feb 02, 2015 8:02 pm Your idea sounds like a retaining wall that is 900mm high which is a serious retaining wall that will need council approval. If you want to have a 600mm wall within a metre of the fence you will need a proper engineered wall. Once it is a 1 m away some councils won't require any engineering. Proably the most economical is a sleeper wall. (http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2013/06/ret ... l-details/) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
