I'll use it for dinners, bbq's and a reading area during summer. Was thinking maybe cut some fake turf grass to cover that awful conrete and chop down the tree in the back corner (it sheds a lot of pollen and junk which ends up in my courtyard). Bonus points if you can suggest an idea of what I could do about the clothes line (it's very much in the way of where you would have an outdoor setting). Looking for ideas where I can remove it and install some kind of alternative clothes line (no idea what or where). If it makes any difference, the sun rises from the neighbours side of the fence (east). I'm in Melbourne. Thanks in advance. Re: Seeking ideas on my small courtyard. 2Dec 08, 2014 1:07 pm I agree! I'm also looking for some ideas to jazz up my backyard for my little boy. I'm thinking about maybe a small swing and/or a slide - does anyone know where I can get these things on a low budget? Or does anyone have other ideas for play equipment? Re: Seeking ideas on my small courtyard. 3Jan 20, 2015 9:31 pm Take the tree out, it is not pretty and offers no shade. Rip up the concrete and pave, or pave over the concrete. Leave 30mm along the side of the house for river stones near where the hose is and also have river stones (a little wider) near the hotwater service/ pipe outlets etc and also place a wooden screen over these items. I would place a small fold out washing line on the side fence down near the wooden gates and also remove that tree as well. Have a selection of tall narrow pots with plants as it will make the space look larger and you can move the pots over the year to get the sun. Re: Seeking ideas on my small courtyard. 4Jan 26, 2015 11:20 am I suggest installing a vertical garden feature on the timber paling fence. It will add a focal point to your garden and add depth to your space. There are many budget living wall planter options available and are easy to install yourself. Re: Seeking ideas on my small courtyard. 5Jan 27, 2015 12:15 pm A few ideas; Retractable clothesline new large format pavers over concrete creeper grown on fence to hide and give illusion of garden being larger. (perhaps star jasmine) another 'layer' of planting where garden bed width allows - evergreen giant liriopes is one option. paint fence a uniform neutral colour (plants eventually will cover over fence, but makes it appear tidy instantly) Hi everyone!
