Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 17, 2014 12:02 pm Hey Guys We have a approx 90-100sq garden. We want to put some kind of irrigation system in it. Plan is attached: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rs3g81eoixrvy ... n.JPG?dl=0 We have a recycled water tap in front and want to have timer enabled system so that we can water grass and plants every day at a set time and interval. Can you guys suggest how to do this? and even if it looks bad can live with it (pipes running across etc).. What items would I need to source and how to setup .. links of products would be appreciated how much would it cost if I try to get quotes? Thanks Re: Garden Irrigation System Help Needed 2Nov 17, 2014 2:39 pm its We have a recycled water tap in front and want to have timer enabled system so that we can water grass and plants every day at a set time and interval. Watering every day is a bad idea as it doesn't encourage deep root growth and it is wasteful. The system you have described would need an irrigation controller. A better idea is to study the BOM radar and manually regulate your watering days based on the forecast. About 95% of Melbourne's rainfall is drizzle or light showers. There are on average 149 days with precipitation but a third of those days have falls of 2 mm or less. An average of 3 days per annum have heavy rain. During the hotter months, I often water after showers of 3 to +5 mm and this ensures that the gardens get a beneficial deep watering. There is no need at all to water gardens and lawns in Melbourne for probably 6 months of the year and only occasionally at the other times. Shallow rooted ground covers however do need regular watering. If you are considering drip hoses for the garden beds, you will also need pressure reducers. Unless you are away for long periods during the hotter weather, I would just move a sprinkler around the yard during the hotter months whenever needed. Manually adjustable tap timers are sold everywhere. If you are set on a retic system and depending on the type of plants and the size of the garden beds, you may need two drip hoses along each garden bed and several small pop up sprinklers in the lawn areas but you would need to run the hoses and the sprinklers independent of each other due to the available flow supply limitations. You can have an underground system designed and installed if money is no object. There are several different systems available. (I think it was) Pope Industries that use to have a booklet about setting up a retic system that you could get from Bunnings and other stores. It might still be available. If not, I am in Melbourne and I may have a copy here somewhere that you can have. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage.
