Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 15, 2014 2:34 pm I picked up the wrong Scott's Weed and Feed from Bunnings and applied it generously to my 250 sq metres of lawn. Then I noticed the "not suitable for Buffalo label". #&*%! I have now watered the lawn vigorously as the label also says to kill weeds it shouldn't rain for 24 hours. It's all I could think of. Apart from shooting myself, which would be the sincerest form of self-criticism. Can any one tell me if there is anything else I can do, and what is the likelihood that I have just destroyed $2000 worth of turf? Thanks. Re: Used the wrong weed and feed on my palmetto (buffalo) la 4Nov 16, 2014 9:34 am I'd be tempted to flood the lawn area with water. Just hose it and hose it and hose it. In doing this you may be pushing it further into the soil where the roots may absorb a bit more but I think overall you'd be diluting it a lot more so its effects won't be as harsh on the buffalo leaves. When we spoke to the gardening expert at Bunnings she said lots of people just grab the popular brands of weed killer not realising they are no good for buffalo. She recommended Amgrow Sedgehammer Weed Killer, not cheap at $62 but it seems to have worked. She also said when you buy anything for your grass to check the label for "Dicamba" as this is not suitable for buffalo. Regards, Grumbles Re: Used the wrong weed and feed on my palmetto (buffalo) la 10Nov 17, 2014 4:28 pm That gives me hope, PHL. The chemicals in the Scott's Lawn Builder and Weed Kill I used are dicamba and mecoprop. To relate what Scott's say: water, water, water. Try to wash the herbicide down below the root level. She also said to mow the lawn to remove chemical from the leaves but in my case I realised straight away (straight away I'd finished, I mean -duh!) and thoroughly hosed it off the leaves, and I'd only just mown it. So since I would have to let the lawn dry out to mow it, there's a bit of conflict in the advice there. She said to keep watering it every day. Seems I might not know till 3 weeks how much damage it's going to do. Thanks for your interest, you guys. I'll let you know. Re: Used the wrong weed and feed on my palmetto (buffalo) la 13Nov 23, 2014 1:49 pm You can say that again, mate. I've watered for 7 days straight now as advised by Scott's, stopping today. Our water tank is long empty and we've been on mains. Rather than being dead, so far the lawn has greened up and is growing while you watch. Hope I've done it, but I will let interested parties know in another week I reckon. Re: Used the wrong weed and feed on my palmetto (buffalo) la 14Nov 29, 2014 1:13 pm At 2 weeks the lawn is thriving rather than dying and I don't expect any change, therefore I would say that this is the way to avoid damage when you have picked up the wrong weed and feed. Unless you discover your mistake straight away as I did, I would think it is good advice to mow it asap to remove blades of grass that have started to pick up the poison. Then water it as copiously as you can and keep watering every day for a week to wash the herbicide down below the root zone. It seems to have worked for me, anyway. there is only 20% difference in concrete strength between 20 mpa and 25 mpa, so check with your engineer first if it fits his calculation tolerances.
