Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 09, 2014 10:04 pm Hi all. We are just putting the final touches on our house renovation and getting ready to sell. Seeing as we are not really the gardening type, we are stumped as to what to plant in these two gardens either side of the walkway leading up to the entrance. Would like to keep costs down as we are selling the house so any tips on what to plant and where would be greatly appreciated. The main thing i guess is we want to hide that treated ugly pine retaining wall as best as possible. The brick section of the retaining wall will be rendered and painted in a stone effect paint so would like to keep that as a feature. Thanks in advance for any suggestions Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Advise for a front garden 2Nov 13, 2014 10:03 pm Q. Will you be putting retic in? Will you mulch after the plantings? This will help keep the ground moist after watering by reducing the water lost from evaporation. Tough plants like rosemary, lavenders, agapanthus, day lillies, dietes should be okay if you don't want to fuss. Lots of people tend to plant flaxes as low maintenance plants, but these aren't as water wise as what has been mentioned, they do require more water even when established. The other way to go is native plants which are water wise. But all new plantings need good watering in and ongoing water for several weeks before they get established. I am looking for someone who might have tackled a similar issue as me. I have a few rendered interior walls, the surface condition is hardly flat.
