Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 30, 2014 3:30 pm HELP please re: right form of adhesive I am wanting to stone clad an internal wall that is a rendered block wall with internal paint finish approx 2 years old. I am receiving conflicting opinions from landscapers as to the best/right way to have the stone stick to the wall. One says the paint must be removed with a grinder so that the adhesive (unsure which brand this person uses) and stone will stick to block wall without falling off down the track. If I have to, will go this path but the thought of all the dust flooding the house is painful already. Another says, Bondal's 'Bondcrete' can be applied over the painted surface and will be more than adequate to hold the stone. The wall is 5.5m long x 2.4m high. I looked at the Bondal spec sheet for Bondcrete and it has a list of suitable applications but painted block walls are not on it. I spoke with a rep from Bondall today and he verbally said it will be fine and has not heard of any issues. The only issues he has had with Bondcrete is when the installer does not mix it right or not use right application. Now - as my application is not noted on Bondcrete spec, I am nervous that if there was a problem, it could be used a a loophole by Bondal? Is there anyone out there that can please give me their advice. Is there anything else I can do? Many thanks in advance. Re: stone cladding to an internal painted & rendered block w 2Nov 05, 2014 6:59 pm When I did my fire place I was told by the supplier of stone cladding that render had to come of the bricks as well. took to it with hammer and bolster and it was surprisingly easy Howie Re: stone cladding to an internal painted & rendered block w 3Nov 06, 2014 9:03 am I'd be tempted to go down the harder road as well and start swinging that hammer. Any number of adhesives will fail on the paint because it depends on how well the original paint has adhered to the render, whether the adhesive and paint are chemically compatible, whether the bondcrete or whatever other primer will adhere to both etc etc. Take it back to the bare blocks and you won't have a problem. Stewie The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 8204 Re my second point – yes exactly. And often it may take additional time if the manufacturer recommends no more than X meters… 3 3756 Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY?
