Dipel is a spray that kills caterpillars. The other thing that can help is to cover with a net. I suppose it probably depends on how much damage in total as to whether it is worth it. Good luck Re: What's eating my kale?? 3Oct 26, 2014 7:20 am Don't talk to me about Kale. Wanting some colour in the garden I found this lovely pink and purple plant. Kale - they told me. I'd never heard of it. So I planted some. Looked lovely, then took off - this huge stalk. In the end I chopped off the stalk and replanted to a spot that it could grow merrily. People say - wow - kale - you can eat that. I offer it but they say maybe later ... But - it does add colour ... for a while. Re: What's eating my kale?? 4Oct 26, 2014 10:12 am SM, you'll probably find the species you bought was the ornamental Kale not the type you can eat. You probably still could but they'd be a bit "woody". A bit like ornamental grape plants. They look spectacular trailed over a trellis but drop their fruit early on in the piece so no vino unfortunately. Chris02, ko27's advice for a net ( a fine mesh one preferably ) is the best way unless you religiously check your susceptible plants every day which can be a pain in the neck. This guide here using cheap electrical conduit ( about $4 a length ) is a popular and cheap way of doing it although friends of ours did a much bigger one for ease of access. http://www.veggiepatch.com.au/howto.html Stewie Re: What's eating my kale?? 6Nov 06, 2014 11:43 pm What's a good spray for getting rid of the white moth? Re: What's eating my kale?? 7Nov 07, 2014 7:01 am If you mean the white butterfly that love brassicas like cabbage here is a good link... http://organicgardening.inmysanctuary.n ... butterfly/ A net is obviously a good deterrent but if you want to try a spray and don't want to nuke your garden of all creatures good and bad using a commercial one then an organic spray like the chillie and garlic is pretty good. Stewie Re: What's eating my kale?? 8Nov 08, 2014 9:08 am Thanks heaps Stewie - I have just one that i have not been able to get rid off. Will try the chilli garlic spray. |
