Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 23, 2014 6:09 pm I'd like to know if I can safely lower the ground level beside our house? I've knocked up a quick picture to show what I'd like to do. Currently the ground slopes from the house down towards the footpath (side street boundary). I'd like to level it off a bit, lowering the ground level beside the house by roughly 20cm. Is this safe? Would drainage be a concern? This is to prevent water pooling next to the slab and to protect the foundations from large variances in the subsoil moisture content. It looks like you either have or intend having a garden next to the house. Yes/No? This is not a real good idea. I know that the diagram is probably not to scale but from what I see, a 20 cm drop would be a very good idea. The main reason for this is that I have concerns as to where your damp proof course is. The DPC is under the weep holes. It would be interesting to see a photo, do you know how to upload a photo on H1? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. What is there now ? Agree re slope needs - nothing worse than water - it can go/get anywhere. Re: Lowering ground level beside house 4Oct 24, 2014 8:01 am Aside from the excellent points raised above , by doing this you may compromise your termite proofing and/or make it a lot easier for termites to enter your home if that is a garden bed next to the house. This is roughly what you should have at the edge of your house... I'm planning on having a garden along a short section of wall (probably 10 metres in total, around a corner). I've probably got 200mm of slab exposed currently, then one course of bricks, then the damp proof course and then the rest of the bricks. My question is should I leave 75mm of slab exposed or 75mm below the damp proof course? My damp proof course has been installed above the first course of bricks Hi guys, I want to do some floor levelling before laying the planks and am considering doing it with self-levelling or yellow tongue PB board.
