Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 20, 2014 11:08 pm Hi All, We're in a new estate and are required to put in trees (which we want because I think it looks terrible without trees). Problem is, all three sides of the backyard have easements near it. From the picture's point of view, the back (marked) and right side (not visible) have an easement on our side of the fence. To the left, our back neighbour has a similar easement his side and we have some pipe sticking up. There's also a manhole further down the left side of the fence, out of shot. I know that our pipes are stormwater, I think the neighbour's are sewage. Questions: Do you have any ideas about how far I need to plant from the easements? Which trees would be suitable for planting near pipes (flowering, up to 15m, straight trunk and good leafy coverage. Or something evergreen that fits the bill)? Any comments or thoughts about planting near pipes, what was your experience and did it pan out in the end? Let me know if there's anything else I can clarify. Generally I would be more hesitant about trees near a surface water pipe than a new sewer. New sewers have much higher standards of construction(better joints) and are less likely to suffer from future tree intrusion than either surface water pipes or old sewers.
