Located in Tarneit (western suburbs of melbourne), the best part of the last two years has seen us busy with our now 2-year old. My garden so far has been 4 in-ground yuccas and 4 in-pot yuccas in the front yard.
Last couple of weekends I spent relocating all 4 in-pot yuccas to pre-landscaped-but-not-yet-filled in ground spots in the front yard. This has made available 4 large plant pots to me. So I decided to relocate these to the sideyard where I can use them to plant some flowers and bring some colour to the place.
So far, I have 1 pot that has the following;
1 x magnolia grandiflora in the middle of the pot
4 x begonia sempeflorens on the 4 borders of the pot
the soil mixture i went for is 30% ground soil (i think mostly clay in the western suburbs of melbourne), 40% potting mixture and 30% compost
mulch to the top of the pot to reduce moisture reduction
I am hoping to do the same as above in the three remaining pots, unless someone here can suggest a better alternative on how to plant magnolias and begonias.
Also, the 4 in-ground yuccas have produced approx 20+ offshoots which are currently drying so they can then be setup elsewhere if required. I have offloaded about 15 of these to friends and colleagues already so I still have about 10 of these available.
There are also plans to build a raised in-ground veggie path and a herb garden on a standing planter. Once done, the decking and/or the water fountain will make an entry.
Any ideas or suggestions on the above setup to improve or alter the garden are welcome. Thank you.
