Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 23, 2014 8:33 pm Hi, This might have been covered elsewhere but I couldn't find it, there's a lot about lawn. We've built in Perth and are now looking to put down lawn. My concern is the couch which is naturally growing all over our back yard. If we prepare the soil as described and put the lawn on top, won't the couch just grow through the lawn? And then slowly take over the lawn? What can we do to prevent the couch from growing through? I've tried weeding it out put it's hopeless. While we're not sure whether to go with soft leaf buffalo or something else, we know for sure it won't be couch:-) Cheers, Tom Re: Putting lawn over native couch 2Sep 23, 2014 11:36 pm You will never be able to just weed it out. Couch is exceptionally hardy and it will just grow back from another rhizome under the ground. Ultimately, glyphosate is your only real option. The better the plant is growing the better the uptake of the poison. If you want to do it right give the couch some soluble nitrogen about a week before the glyphosate. Follow up with another hit of glyphosate a fortnight later. Re: Putting lawn over native couch 3Sep 25, 2014 7:57 pm Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. It's been raining on and off, didn't have the chance to spray anything and the lawn is coming this weekend. Hopefully.
