Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Buffalo lawn repair - help please 13Jan 07, 2015 3:04 pm Howdy all Long time reader, first time poster. My 3 month old Sir Walter Buffalo appears to be suffering from the same or a very (very) similar issue. As Jassy mentioned, fungus is highly probable. 'It' started on the left hand side of my 3x1m lawn patch, and after trimming I found it on the other side. I clip the lawn and bag as it is too small to mow with any type of mower. I (want to) believe this fungal disease has spawned due to watering in the evening. http://s13.postimg.org/v8dsncgw6/PRE_all_lawn.jpg http://s13.postimg.org/oj797bvk6/PRE_two_fungis.jpg http://s13.postimg.org/j3txsmeme/PRE_fungi_close.jpg I applied Mancozeb 4 days back now, and aerated the lawn yesterday in preparation for reinvigorating it. It is a small area (3m^2), so I did this manually. Electric drill and a 14mm bit, each hole approx 8cm from the last. Bit rough though, beats hiring a corer for this patch. Took about 25 minutes and a two beers. I kinda want to do it again (there is a benefit for any one thinking, hey I will do this manually). Most likely will buy some of those aerating thongs and follow Fu Manchu's suggestion to carry a beer at all times. http://s13.postimg.org/rslodsjnq/PRE_fungi_aerated.jpg Took a pH meter to the soil shortly after aerating yesterday, and found it sitting at 4.5 to 5.5 pH. Well below where it needs to be. After leaving the grass aerated for 24 hours until today, I have applied sand over the lawn and core holes (5'ish KG over the whole area) which effectively placed a 2-3mm layer of sand over the entire patch, and changed the appearance of the top soil without filling/mounding/looking like Brighton Le Sands beach here in Sydney. Any who. Next, followed the application instructions on the back of the Dolomite Lime for my loamy soil. Next layer was some Naked Farmer organic soil activator (a bag, applied evenly). Then made a molasses/seasol/wetter combo and applied. Then applied some VitaRich (which as I understand is essentially Seasol +Powerfeed) over the top. I am looking forward to seeing the lawn change over the next few weeks. http://s13.postimg.org/sd0pghcw6/POST_all_lawn.jpg http://s13.postimg.org/skjqz8yh2/POST_two_fungi.jpg http://s13.postimg.org/9fl33896u/POST_fungi_close.jpg PS: the white stains on the lawn are residual from the Mancozeb. I will be applying another dosage first thing Saturday morning (6 days from first dose). PPS: the number one take home point for me is look after your soil first and foremost. Oh, and beer, it does help a lot with these tasks. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi All, Hoping someone might be be to provide some advice on my ceiling that needs repair.
