Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 14, 2014 12:20 pm Hi all – help needed with design. As our build is progressing thoughts are directed to the exterior of the house and what we will need/want in our design. A below, from end of the house to back fence we have 15.8m x 18.29 – pool is 7.5m from rear of house. This is what I have come up with as a landscape design – please help with your thoughts and ideas/changes what you would do’s ?!?!?!? It will also frame the pool rather nicely when seated outdoors in the summer. You seem to have a path of the LHS going directly into a fence while your pool gate is on the opposite side of the lawn? Wouldn't it make more sense for those stepping stones to meander across the lawn and end up at the gate. I know you have a pathway around the lawn, but when you think about it, people are more likely to walk in their line of sight to get to the pool. Is there a purpose for the grass? Kids play area or something of that nature? If not consider giving more of it over to shrubbery to reduce the amount of time you'll spend mowing and coaxing a lawn along. Perhaps even a small growing tree or two to provide shade in the heat of summer. Views of the pool will be more enticing if they are glimpses over other plantings rather than a full view across a lawn (unless of course that's your intention for supervising kids). You don't mention what climate you are in and the actual size of your block. It's hard to tell whether that's an acre of lawn or just a small strip. Do you favour formally styled gardens (symmetry and geometric borders) or a more naturalistic style of garden? How much involvement do you with your garden? Set and forget style, with the occassional cleanup or like to be involved every weekend? Re: Landscape Design HELP 3Jul 20, 2014 9:23 pm Hi Vouge, It also has to do with $$$$. I agree with strawlizzy with the suggestions...but if the lawn is done properly it can be a really good view from the pool to the house. Stepping stones from alfresco to pool is a perfect solution for people to walk across. Everyone wants the quickest route from house to pool on a nice day. If looking after the kids isn't a worry, then a nice semi shrub screen along the lawn side of the pool fence can also work as it breaks up the yard creating two zones. Have a break where a pool gate belongs. If there are older persons swimming then it acts as a totally separate area. Another option people choose is to break up a large area of one material (in this case; lawn) by planting one or two larger trees in the main area...ie/ have a stepping stone path through the middle and have a tree in the middle of each half to break up the lawn a little. Can be a cheap option for creating a bit of colour. Also depends on what state you are in for the grass and trees.... Good luck.... Should I excavate and cut all of the dirt to level with the house slab or semi-excavate as per photo above? Both left and right… 0 24873 Thanks very much! And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do? Thanks for your help 2 10034 |
