Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 06, 2014 8:31 pm Hi We are currently renting whilst we build. Our rental basically had very little grass the previous owners used weed killer to do the edges and most of the lawn. The rest is just weeds. I had only 24 hrs to find a rental before our home settled (long story), anyway I had to accept this house as it was. I have asked the owner to consider laying new turf but they have said no. Anyway, we oversewed the front lawn and that is coming along well. As for the back we have blocked half the yard for our dogs and the rest we were going to oversow with seed. But today walking the dogs a builder in our estate had dumped 15 rolls of turf on a vacant block and had laid them out. the bottoms were still moist and the roots were still green but with the winds the tops had dried out and were quite crunchy and brown. I have brought them home to save them and we have laid them in home that the roots are still ok. Its worth a try as its better than dirt. What our our chances of bringing it back. I feel there is hope. Any hints and tips to get these rolls back to life. one or two rolls had a bit of green where they were protected by other rolls. what do you think do we have hope.... I thought ah well I will lay them anyway I have nothing to lose but a few hours of my time. The only place they still looked alive was right at the edge of the rolls. They appeared to be dead buuuttt within about 4 weeks they started sprouting, so the roots must have still been ok. Which would probably be the case with yours : ) You could perhaps put some seasol on it to encourage root growth Re: dead looking turf rolls 3Jul 23, 2014 2:55 pm lots of molasses and seasol (mix with water in a watering can) Re: dead looking turf rolls 4Jul 23, 2014 11:06 pm Hey, thanks for your replies... guess what you were right.. they are now starting to sprout and the rolls have bedded to the old ground. Its great to have some grass in this backyard. It did not do the whole yard but its done a bit... will have to keep a look out for some more discarded rolls. They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 5900 Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6894 Hi, I am looking into doing a KDR in Melbourne and am contemplating using Kialla Homes. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 13449 |
