Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 03, 2014 5:01 pm Hi As we (hopefully!!) are nearing the end of our build my mind has turned into thinking of our landscaping. To keep costs down I was wanting someone to design something for us that I could DIY or hire people to do over the coming months (years!?). Does anyone know of any landscapers/designers who will provide the plans/design only? Or do they all design and do the work themselves? Essentially I need someone to be creative for me I'm located in the outer south eastern suburbs of Melbourne so if you know of someone you'd recommend let me know Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: Landscape design only? 2Jul 03, 2014 5:14 pm Or... Does anyone know of landscaping software that can be used for sloping blocks? The only software I found didn't allow for anything other than flat yards. I would think you should be able to find someone to do the plans only though. Maybe email a few local to you and ask? As part of the most recent sustainability week I scored a free appointment with a landscape architect. She was brilliant for the backyard, but I'm still at a loss for the front. Re: Landscape design only? 4Jul 05, 2014 5:21 pm These guys do the garden maintenance for the rental we're in at the moment and I discovered by chance that they also do fixed price landscape design. I've got no idea of what they're like but it's something we're considering. http://www.mjlandscaping.com.au/design/ ... s-pricing/ I'm sure there's more design-only services around but I haven't had the chance to look for any yet. ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. Eeek - We're embarking on a knockdown rebuild! Click here for our build thread Our blog: kdrhome.wordpress.com Re: Landscape design only? 5Jul 06, 2014 10:21 pm I just got my landscaping plans done. They are designed and presented in a way that anyone can follow them. My designer only charges market rates (ie going labour rates) for the installation. I've got an inch thick folder that details how to plant, when and what to do for the maintenence. All designers should be able to design it in such a way that you or the gardeners can follow. I would start with the Landscape association in your state and use someone fully accredited. For what's it's worth I know in hindsight what I wanted to do wouldn't have worked due to the conditions so I would have been throwing good money after bad. Getting plans done was one of the best things I did. I paid $2000 for the plans. I think that's the going rate for a horticulturalist landscape architect. Re: Landscape design only? 6Jul 06, 2014 10:25 pm Just saw you are on a sloping block (as am I) and I didn't realize the importance of drainage! The design would take that into account and use it as an advantage. Also they are so creative. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised. Re: Landscape design only? 7Jul 08, 2014 8:04 pm Thanks for the replies guys I think I better start looking around for a local landscaper who can provide details plans. You could accurately reflect the slope in that. There is a bit of a learning curve though. Re: Landscape design only? 11Jul 13, 2014 11:11 am I'd definitely have a go yourself first. Try to draw up what you want - always try to put it on paper. Go to display village and drive around looking for ideas - and take photos. I did our watering system - its not hard - but takes time and design. Then - maybe get a few quotes from people. Funny story - I did our place in Canberra - our old place - and was approached by a woman one day who said - "This Smith" design is wonderful - he's so good". I'd hired smith to bring in the turf and rocks, tanbark etc etc and do the labour. BUT - it was my design he worked to. My ideas. He had a bob-cat, and all the heavy stuff. Which I didn't. And I had him on a daily rate. Apparently he was telling the world it was his "garden". I said this to the woman and she gave me this half "sure" smile ... It did save me a lot though. We were actually approached to enter a garden comp - so it turned out well. I didn't know they had a group called "free-style" ... Landscape Design Parramatta We have been doing a large amount of landscape design work in Sydney… 0 3 Need advice on the backyard plan above. Should I excavate and cut all of the dirt to level with the house slab or semi-excavate as per photo above? Both left and right… 0 24865 Thanks very much! And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do? Thanks for your help 2 10026 |
