Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 27, 2014 1:46 pm Hi guys I have a newish brick house (3 yo) but have not had a chance to do a full garden yet. On a side of a driveway I planted some greenery against the boundry wall. Added mulch last year. One of the plants died soon after and I left it for a year. Last week I decided to re-plant it with a new one, so that there is no gap and top up with new mulch. Started digging a hole and... Termites are in the ground! Never had to deal with them, so need some steps on what needs to be done now. Is it bad? Do I need to remove all the plants and mulch from that area? Can someone please help? Re: Termites in the garden - Perth 2May 27, 2014 2:08 pm I'd call in an expert to advise. Don't just poison them. May be nothing - but get the right advice on the spot. Thanks Just don't want them to take advantage of me not knowing of what is required. If they tell me it will be a few thousand $ job? Re: Termites in the garden - Perth 4May 27, 2014 2:15 pm Pick a reputable firm. Not Joe Blogs who the neighbour knows. It is worth getting it done properly. And - it may cost a bit to get it checked - not thousands .... Then - you may need an annual check. Re: Termites in the garden - Perth 5May 27, 2014 2:16 pm Saint Mike Pick a reputable firm. Thank you =) Will do that Re: Termites in the garden - Perth 6May 27, 2014 2:17 pm Our pest guy has always pointed out termites in our garden in our annual inspection but wasn't worried about them. I think they must be the wrong species or far enough from the house or something. So yeah, get a reputable pest company to come have a look. Is the area known for termites ? You may need a total check. But - you have to trust the expert. You're sure they are termites ? Maybe not as white, but then again, whey live in the dirt =) Got someone coming to do a free assessment Re: Termites in the garden - Perth 9May 27, 2014 5:06 pm Places that give free assessments worry me! I'd rather get an actual termite and pest inspection for a hundred or two. I'd rather get an actual termite and pest inspection for a hundred or two. Its not really an assessment, they just come in to discuss the needs. They do charge money for the proper inspection. But I want to ask them questions first =) Re: Termites in the garden - Perth 12May 28, 2014 2:36 pm As termites are moving through the ground all the time then don't do nothing, except for checking that there are no mud tunnels running up from the ground on the side/walls of the slab/house. If you see this then get a qualified pest controller to treat this invasion. I wouldn't worry if they are in the garden.
