What are some typical measurements for the posts and the distance between posts? Re: Fence typical measurements 2May 30, 2014 4:43 pm Hi Trixee, Do you mean that you are proposing a brick fence with slat infill? That's what it sounds like. Often people do brick piers at centres of 2.5 - 3.5m. It may depend too on the length of the slats you are proposing to use. Do you want to see a join in the slats? Probably not, so how long can you get them? That may determine how far apart your piers are. As far as the width of the piers is concerned, this can vary too. I would suggest that one brick width may look a bit narrow and "funny". A brick and a half (say roughly 360 mm) can look fine or even 2 bricks (roughly 470mm) can give you a chunkier look. It can depend on the height of the piers as well as to how they will look proportionally. Have you looked at getting quotes yet? I don't mean to scare you but this type of fence can be quite expensive. Think $1k per lin.m. The money is all in the footings. You can reduce this by deleting the base wall and just having brick piers with the slats going all the way to the ground. Just a suggestion. Good luck with it all. Cheers, Jenny.
