Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 16, 2014 6:11 pm I am building on a corner block and my house can face three different ways. I realized after the land was scraped that I needed a fairly large retaining wall between my land and the council strip about 30m long and around 1m high. My question is are you allowed to change the slope/levels of council land? There is no foot path and it will purely be grass, my initial thoughts would be that you wouldn't be allowed for some reason, but it won't be causing any problems with neighbors etc... here are some crude diagrams to show what I am trying to explain. Particulary if it looks natural, rather than a grab for extra land for yourself. What would help is if the next neighbour up followed a similar profile to what I suggest, as it would like a more natural look to it. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Are you allowed to change the slope of council land? 5Apr 21, 2014 12:58 pm I've had a good look and I think I could probably get away with a 600mm retaining wall due to what I have read the retaining wall on the boundary needs to be 400mm in which puts me half way up the slope anyway. I wasn't trying to steal land from council simply move the slope out so that my backyard is flat and council land has a gradual slope to the gutter. The time and amount of fill I would need even if I could do it would be very time consuming anyway. I have emailed my council about the regulations for retaining walls but it appears max height before approval and engineer being involved is 600mm and as mentioned previously 400mm in to my land from boundary (no neighbors around that side of house just council land and street). I am in Wollongong council, does anyone know the retaining wall rules as I am still waiting for a response. Need advice on the backyard plan above.
