Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 08, 2014 1:19 am Our house is next door to an ugly 2 story structure that our living area and alfresco look out on. I would love to create a large green hedge. I estimate it would need to be at least 4 metres tall. The problem is its on our north side and my neighbours southern side so it hardly gets any sun. Any ideas are welcome. I live on the south west coast of Victoria. It would get down to about 1 degree overnight in winter. So far my ideas are - bamboo, however I'm worried it won't thrive and it's expensive. - bamboo again but in planter boxes that are 1.5 metres off the ground already I don't know, I'm at a loss really. They can also look right into our living areas and they are so tall. I really think something would need to be about 6 metres high to give us any privacy but at least 4 metres to improve our outlook. Thanks in advance for any advice. I'll try to take some better pictures tomorrow. Re: Need ideas for privacy 2Apr 08, 2014 8:34 am Hi, what about lillypilly or viburnum? They both are reasonably fast growing as well. You could also buy garden screening (such as bamboo or brushwood,) if you don't want a living screen. Here's a link for lillypilly, some grow taller than 4m: http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au/factsh ... ieties/560 Re: Need ideas for privacy 3Apr 08, 2014 11:45 am Thanks tressseachanger. I'm going to ask about those in the nursery. Lilly pilly it says can tolerate full shade so that's looking good. The garden bed will only be about .75 of a metre wide so there are quite a few issues. Yes I am thinking of a screen as well. I might look a bit more into that, especially if I don't need a permit. Thanks for your suggestions.
