Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 28, 2014 1:04 pm Hey Guys, I want to to get some help re-working my backyard. I'm pretty keen to do it myself but I have very little idea where to start. I'd love to get someone to get someone to come over and give me some idea on design and materials etc. Conversely I could get them to oversee the job while I do most of the labour. I'd just pay for their time. Is this possible? I have had the experience before where i do heaps of research and then end up getting it wrong anyway Thanks in advance. Re: Landcape Design Help 2Mar 29, 2014 6:56 pm Hi Steve If you post a pic of your current backyard and then a sketch of what you envisage...There's some very creative landscape people on here who will help you out who have done their own. You need to include the aspect (ie where's north) and where do you need shade, if you need a windbreak anywhere etc. etc. Also include any drying areas, utility areas and kids play area or anything else applicable on your sketch... Re: Landcape Design Help 3Apr 01, 2014 8:30 pm Thanks for your reply. Sketches? I think thats part of the problem. I wouldn't even know where to start regarding the design. I'll post some photo's tomorrow. Its a pretty clean slate to be honest. Re: Landcape Design Help 4Apr 01, 2014 8:37 pm Hi wheressteve, Do you have a site plan of your existing house on your block. That's a good starting point. It will show where north is at least and the relationship of your house to the rest of the block. Maybe some photos of the sort of thing you like as well. Pinterest is amazing for that stuff. Then throw it out to the forums and what those creative landscape types contribute. I would suggest though not to rush it too much. Get comfortable with the ideas and then take it one step at a time. Good luck with it all. Cheers, Jenny. Need hints, tips and inspiration?
