My opinion though, could have something to do with growing up on a 92acre farm and that was exactly our view- cows and kangaroos. Grab ahold of it and make friends with the cows. Nothing like the smell of fresh cow dung in the morning. I mean that in all seriousness, I lean my head outside the window when I drive past a dairy. Looove that smell. Takes me back home. But I'm rambling... Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 4May 19, 2008 7:36 pm wow, what a lovely view.
I think it's a fantastic idea! Although, thinking as a girl, I'd feel a bit scared to sit outside on my own if I thought someone could peep through the back fence. It is private property at the back but it's a beef farm, the nearest house in that direction is about a kay.....and the neighbours are single storey and they can always peek over the fence. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 6May 19, 2008 8:43 pm If it were me, I'd probably paint a mural of cartoon cows on the inside of the fence....

Ditto - Mike - I'd be for getting the view, but what are the breeze like there ? I had neighbour in the hills who moved in and promptly ripped down a tall solid fence and 'removed a hedge in front of it (to see the views) and they soon found out that in winter the wind ripped up the hill and through his garden onto his outdoor area. My advice - leave it 12 months, live there - analyse and then decide if you want to change it. Time lets you see the place in all seasons and see why things have been done. Steve Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 9May 19, 2008 10:03 pm I agree with Steve, live there a while and see what you think and then make a decision. You don't want to rush into anything and then regret it? I love cows, I'd love looking at them, but I'd still be a bit freaked out that I couldn't see out into the distance and about what was lurking there (besides the cows). Nic I thought this would be right up your alley, unless you only like flattened ones Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 13May 20, 2008 4:03 pm Rachelle Nic I thought this would be right up your alley, unless you only like flattened ones Ooooohh....LOL, Rachelle i didn't even think of it that way... Hmmm and i'm after a nice black & white hide rug too.... Well Done!!!! Hahahahaha Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 14May 24, 2008 2:29 pm Hi TDL
I also like the idea of waiting until you have lived there a little while. We will be doing the same with the outside and window coverings. I do however have another option rather than the cyclone fence. What about a plain pool fence. That way the kids can't climb it but you still get the view? Also looking at your other post re having a fort playground I thought I would share what the back yard looked like at the house we just sold. When we did this we had planned on being in the house till the boys reached highschool (they are 4 & 5 now). We also had a shade sale planned for over the fort and replacing the deck with one that ran the width of the house. The style of the pool fence in these phtot would be the sort I am talking about. Anne, beautiful backyard and great idea about the pool fence....it would have to be cow proof... because it is common land with a farm....but pool fences are pretty strong. I'll certainly be going with a shade structure over the fort area. The next door neighbour has a cyclone fence with gums planted along the fenceline.....the cows come right to the fence and eat the lower branches of the trees....it's hard to resist. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 16May 24, 2008 7:46 pm I'd go with some sort of farm fence/pool fence too. Your kids will love it if they can just go down to the back fence and feed some cows (it looks like there's not much feed left in that paddock). Up until a few years ago, my house was just 2 blocks away from paddocks and I'd wake up each morning to hear cows. Then the land was sold to developers and I woke up to the sound of trucks being reversed out of the compound each morning... I much prefer the sound of cows in the morning lol.
Take advantage of the wide open spaces while they're still there. Someday some developer will want that land Received keys to my new home on 16/5/08 Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 17May 24, 2008 8:45 pm Go for an electric fence, Mike!
The cows will already be used to it, your kids will get used to it, and undesirable types won't get used to it! Geoff - Decophile. Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 18May 24, 2008 11:23 pm sometimes we can hear cows from our rental and from our block . I love it. sadly we won't see them from there though. What a great outlook. A shame not to use it while you can. Re: "Borrowed" Landscape...what would you do? 20Jun 18, 2008 12:51 pm Anne,
love the backyard. With only 5.5 meters out the back and a 2 meter easement I think we'll be struggling. And I think the idea of a cyclone fence is a great one! They dont have plans of developing back that way tho do they? might want to be double sure before you shell out for a new cow proof fence Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
