Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 24, 2014 10:06 am Hi I've got two storm water pits at the back left corner of my garden, with the drainage pipe running under ground to the right corner, and then down the length of the property to the street. However, I hate this area of the garden. I don't particularly want to plant anything at the end of the garden because of root damage to the drain etc., plus I want something relatively easy to maintain. My idea is to build a deck along that area of the garden so that I can create a seating area there, hide the storm water pits and also have a container garden for that area. Firstly, is there any foreseeable problems with building a deck over the area which you know contains the drain below surface? Secondly, is it ok to deck over the storm water pits also (although ideally I would maintain access to the pits by constructing removable portions of the deck for those particular areas)? Thanks for any advice Re: Decking over storm water pit? 2Feb 24, 2014 10:31 am As someone who works in the drain cleaning business it is never a good idea putting something fixed over a cover. Over the pipe itself is rarely a problem as long as you don't damage the pipe. I have seen a few posts driven right through the pipe over the years. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Decking over storm water pit? 3Feb 24, 2014 10:39 am cool... i think that answers my question... i'm mainly worried about decking over the pipe that's under the surface; but my reasoning is, if i have to get access to the actual pipe, i'm going to have to pretty much rip up the entire garden anyhow. as for the pits themselves, i was thinking of making trapdoors to go over the existing covers so that i can still get access to them for cleaning etc. Thanks for that, the PVC pipe is still about 40cm below ground level and it sticks out of the sand with no end cap or anything on it just open pipe, is this the finished… 2 10465 Hello I am developing 2 side by side units.
