Ok.. For the background.
Have bought a smallish place in Altona (Vic) off the plan.... Which includes "basic landscaping" - basically means for the lawn areas they will spread a bit of seed and hope for the best!!! I have seen the end result of this, and I am going to say forget it and just do the job properly.
Getting some additional works done in the back yard (i.e paving, drainage, retaining wall/garden beds) but thought I would tackle putting down turf in the front.
Now, Soil in Altona appears to be S**t! Grey, sandy typical beachside soil - Now I think to myself, Great, just like Perth, so I can basically use Fu's lawn preparation method verbatim.
So, have tracked down most of the pre-requisites:
Zeolite - Yep
Bentonite - Yep
Perlite - Yep
Seasol, Molasses, Seamungus etc - Yep
My remaining problem is "Organic Soil" - I am really not quite sure what I need here.. Appears that "the Green Centre" has some things which may fit the bill (albeit not certified?) but I am not sure which would be most appropriate to use..
The Choices are:
Dig-In Compost (http://www.thegreencentre.com.au/garden ... n-compost/)
And
Turf Loam (http://www.thegreencentre.com.au/garden ... turf-loam/)
Does anybody have a recommendation as to which one I should be using and digging through the soil? Happy to use either, both, or something else if you can point me in the right direction. But seems there is a lack of good stuff in Melbourne.
Also... Any locals have a perspective on a good turf? Would like to use Empire Zoysia but am a bit nervous that It may not go well in the colder Vic climate.. Other turf that appeals is Sapphire Buffalo.
Any advice would be gladly accepted! My wife is wanting to put down Synthetic turf - I am flatly refusing, saying ZI can get us a Fantastic lawn with a little bit of care.... Of course - this means I have to deliver
